Stuck Gen Slide Suggestions

Our 2016 DSDP 10K generator slide won't open. I disconnected the cable from the latch system underneath to see if the cable is bound, but it moves freely. Newmar wasn't much help beyond saying that they've had problems with the cable release (which is why I disconnected it).

I tried to manually pull on the linkage (with the cable disconnected) to release it but I doubt that I can get the same mechanical advantage as the cable release. I can't see any obvious points that the release linkage system is binding.

I'm not sure about how the linkage typically moves. It seems to want to move vertically rather than horizontally which seems wrong since the two latches seem to have horizontal movement.

I had a couple of thoughts for next steps but I'd reach out to the collective wisdom here before moving forward. Usually I can push on the generator when pulling on the T handle, now it won't move at all.

I thought about backing off the tensioning spring bolt to see if it would create a bit of room. The other thought was to start unbolting the latches to see if the problem is a broken roller or some other part of the slide is bound up.

Any suggestions or personal experiences are appreciated.

Once in a while mine will become obtuse also. All I do is get another body to give a good push on the front while I'm pulling the cable handle. Bingo,
Once you get it released, spray the track and mrchanisim with some Boshield T9 spray lube.

Gen slide

NW Landing,
Did you get the front axle upgrade? The Gen. latch was difficult prior to the upgrade. I mentioned this to the Freightliner tech that replaced my axle and said the latch will be different. He had to do some mod to it. It worked great at first for a few months. Then it stiffened some. I lubed everything that moved, including the cable and things work great again. Hope this helps.
Good luck and be safe.
John

Thanks dennis45 and Webz. I had sprayed T9 on all the linkage mechanical parts a few days ago. I went out this morning and pushed on the gen while the DW pulled the cable release to no avail. I crawled back under and after the obligatory head bang I used used a screw driver a pry bar to lift up in the bar. Presto, it popped open. The monthly maintenance list crew by one now! Thanks for your replies!

Our DSDP is a 2016.5 that came from Freightliner with the upgraded front axle, so if there were any mods to the gen tray Newmar would have done it when the coach was going through the chassis building. It would be interesting to do a side by side comparison to see what's different.

Thanks

2016 vs 2016.5

I too would be interested in comparing our coaches side by side. We are in Oklahoma for a little while. The modified latch was part of the axle upgrade. It was interesting to see the new one prior to installation. It included everything from brake disc to brake disc with new air bags also. Seeing the entire coach over six feet off the ground was kind of spooky.
