Stuck in Abilene

Need some ideas. 2000 Dutch Star 8.3 isc Cummins. 79,000 miles. On way to great Granddaughters birth motor just shut off. No lack of power or any thing else. Just like key was turned off. Lone Star Truck Repair just checked for codes and nothing. Any ideas?

Not much here to go on but if it quit that fast, like turning off the key, it could be an issue with the ignition key switch. or, possibly a fusible link. You'd have to locate them, possibly near the engine, and check each one.
Then again, it could be one of a hundred things, from a simple fuse to a broken connector, to a computer issue.
These issues are never easy, or quick, to resolve. Good luck with this.

Possible Fuel Problem

When did you last get fuel. You might have gotten some bad fuel or possibly your fuel filter or some other line has become plugged. The way you said it just shut down sure sounds like a fuel problem to me. That might not be it, but would be worth checking out.

After letting it sit for a little bit, what happens when you turn the key? Does the dash light up or is everything on the dash dead?

Hi Coop, welcome back. Were you towed into Lone Star or did you manage to re-start the engine and drive on in? The lack of engine code only means that something without a sensor caused the engine to stop.

At the most basic, diesel engines run until there is no fuel. Either filters clog, pumps stop pumping, or cut off solenoids shut off fuel for some reason...

Lone Star should be able to figure this out for you.

Had that happen on my old Alpine with an 8.3 engine. It was the fuel shut-off solenoid.

Stuck in Abilene

We did have to be towed in. Waited 2 full days to get it looked at. Some how the fuel pump slipped out of time. New pump on the way. Looks like late Tuesday before it'll be done. Appreciate the suggestions. Coop

Heard they were unable to fix your rig. Hopefully you'll find someone to get you going.

Really don't recommend Lone Star Trucking for repairs. 10 days and 8,000 bucks to change fuel pump. But we're back with our new great Granddaughter in Midland. Thx for all the responses. Coop 302
