Have a 2001 Mountain Aire with HWH leveling system. The left rear jack goes down OK but is slow to retract. Would only retract 1/2 way into the store position. Put the jack back down and now the jack will only go up 1/4 of the way into the store position. Where is the breather cap and the T-handles located on a DPMA 2001 or what else should I check?

Put a 2x4 on edge under the pad while in store and it will go up. Springs have probably lost the tension.

The jack will only retract if I use a car scissor jack to push it up.

The breather cap and T-handles should be located just behind the passengers headlight. Access is via the generator compartment.

Good Luck,

Update:

Thanks to everyones input, I located valves next to the gen. I also pulled up the manual on-line for a 2001 HWH 610 series. Based on the manual, I turned counter-clockwise the T-handle a few turns but the jack still will not retract. Based on the info from the manual, I assumed that the outer left and right controls the rear jacks so I even turned the outer right too, but no retraction. What is the max turns on the T-handle? Any other ideas to try?

I believe the manual says 4 1/2 turns if it does not come up the O rings maybe bound tight inside piston. There is a picture of T valve set up in manual. Try jacking up axel and drop jack plate on blocks to force jack back into piston.
You need a new jack or rebuilt one.
Check the links for removal.

I can push the jack back up with no problem using a jack. The problem is retraction. Is there anything else to check? Is 4.5 turns on the T-handle the max? Can you turn it too far?

Yes you can destroy the spring valve should not require alot of turns for springs on jack to return fluid back to fluid box. The springs are what forces oil back when you open T valve.

It sounds like you have a swollen or sticking seal in the jack. You can remove it and send it to HWH and they will rebuild it or you can buy a new one.

So why does it work in one direction (down) but not in the reverse? I would think that if there is a problem with the seals that it would effect both directions.

I hate to interject something this simple, but have you cleaned the jack outer sleve and lubricated the jack itself? I had a problem with one jack taking a LONG time to retract, and that was the "cure" given by a tech at the dealership. I tried it and it worked like a charm.
