Stump the Experts: 1999 DS Model ID

I've been browsing and can't make this ID: What model Dutch Star, 1999 DP, 39', would have a single, large slide, no driver door, "public potty", and mid entry door, slightly forward of the mid line of the bus? Color appears to be a grayish blue on white.

Follow up question: What are the chassis-level specs? Engine, chassis model, WB, etc. Or can you point me to the data sheet?

I tried posting the brochure for that model but the file size was above the max for this forum. Try this link from the Newmar owners section of their web site. If it doesn't work PM me your email and I'll send it to you.

Thanks very much for the link!

What this tells me is that I can't find references to a 39' mid-door, 1999 DS DP because there isn't one. I hate it when that happens! According to the brochure, the big DP's are 38' with a front door.

*sigh* Ok -- when this comes up in a sale listing, does it mean the seller is ignorant of what he's been driving, or is the bus being misrepresented on purpose? I can't imagine an owner so uninvolved with his RV that he doesn't know how long it is. . . .

Yeah, me too. "unravelling the mystery" is part of the fun. Even if it nets me nothing, I learn through the process.

Here's the link. The clues for me are the mid-door, color, and the public potty, with the toilet at the forward end of the bathroom. I don't know enough about DS to conclude anything except I don't see that bath layout or mid door in a '99, DP. According to the brochure, The 3858 and 3865 have the potty, but not the entry. The shorties have the entry, but not the potty.

Interesting. When I put the VIN number in ComNet it comes up as a "65620 - 1999 DSDP 3858 - 4UZ6XJCA3XCF26887 - In Production 03/09/1999". I wonder if they made mid-entry optional that year or if it was a running change (maybe the next year model had mid-entry, given it's production date late in the model year).

I contacted the owner. He says:

"Model is DSDP3858. Spec says it's 38 ft. Has a Cat 3156 300 HP motor"

I suspect he means the Cat 7.2 liter 3126B?

He doesn't comment on the mid entry.

The 99 Brochure shows mid- doors for the gas coach, not saying there may have been one on a diesel coach during that time period they were always making changes during mid year productions.
This Owners guide will have needed info also.
Going through the information in this link will help you find most anything you may need to know.
Using the COM_NET link will be for your answer.

Ok -- I've gone through the links given -- thanks for those! I found a model DP3866, 1998 with a mid door entry. It's in the 1998 DS brochure. But it's got the galley on the driver's side. The pictures in the listing I'm looking at have it on the curb side. The brochure is a scan and may have the proper floorplan showing in the picture below the 3866 (evidently a DP3883). But the drawing is cut off, showing only the driver's side.

So the VIN is LATE 99 and might reference a '98 DP3883. Of course I can't find details on that one, either.

Should call Newmar and see if they have the information will not find it here and it maybe a model they decided to discontinue for some reason, the owners guide for what ever year it is would most likely work for the coach..
The VIN#'s in com-net use to only go back to 2000, if you give me your full vin# will give it a try and see what we get.

Freightliner chassis by the motor and eight bolt wheels , interior ( except for the floral pattern color) is 90% same as mine , including that swivel recliner.

My chassis Feb 99 production coach completed in March.

Not sure this will hold for you.

At the top of this page you will see a search catalog block input last 7 numbers, letters, CF26887, than click go and a window will come up with your VIN# and other coach info click on it and coach info will appear.
If you do not see the search top of page use a COM_NET link I have provide in links I have given you. There was a center door option for that DP coach listed in the brochure.

This is the brochure link gives me of that vin# and there was cabinet info and a note about specials in the build order which could be your door special order.
Newmar should have this info for you.
