Surge Protection

We have a 2019 MA on order. One of the options was a transfer switch with surge protection. Does this mean I do not need to install a separate surge protection device?

The surge guard newmar uses is a single use protection device. Once it takes a surge, you will have no power until replaced.

Due to this, I have installed the progressive hw50c in between the shore cord and this surge protector.

Now if my progressive takes a hit, I can put it in bypass and still have protection while I wait for repair parts for the progressive unit.

On our LA with the option from Newmar of surge gard when we added another surge protection unit we lost all power. It was another unit similar unit so they most not be compatible with factory unit.

We also added a Progressive EMS-HW50C that has been hard wired on all three coaches we have owned. Our MA also has a factory surge protector but I wouldn't run without the Progressive unit. They give me peace of mind for the power coming in and their customer tech support is amazing.

Anyone consider the Hughes Autoformer with the replaceable Surge unit?

Anyone know the details of the Surge and cost of the replaceable module?

A Hughes autoformer is not really a surge protector. My understanding is that it basically protects the RV from low voltage. It bumps up (not sure how) the voltage if it's too low.

Redbaron....is that reel a standard feature on RVs or an add-on? That looks really handy.

I bought the hughes autoformer and mounted it inside the electrical bay. It has twice the surge protection of the factory upgraded transfer switch (which I got)and the PE unit. I like it because it monitors for low voltage and will boost it. Although it's mounted permanent it still plugs in so bypassing is easy.

Its on the door. You can see it on the pics. Works great for most campsites to allow me to read it while hooking up.

See the note about surge protection. It is relatively new product.
