I am more comfortable with the Power Master/EMS/Transfer Switch hookup. Wish we had 50 amp with consistent voltage..... But that isn't the reality of what I deal with. My setup comes from Dr4Film's advice of a couple years back and It has been battlefield tested.
The "Battlefield test" will come when we get a lighting strike, and what ever is on the "Front line" is going to loose............

Folks,

Trust me if anyone sustains a lightning strike it doesn't matter what you have on the front end or the back end. Chances are they are all going to get fried including a lot of items inside the coach.

There is no inexpensive device including the Progressive Industries EMS HW-50C that will hold up to a lightning strike. There are devices made that will protect against a lightning strike but most RVer's cannot afford them.

Now if there were to be normal surges in the power that occurred both the PowerMaster VC-50 and the EMS HW-50C have the same number of Joules protection, 3580, which is pretty much the highest found in those types of devices.

I don't think the Hughes Autoformer can come close to that. Maybe that's why people have so many problems with that device, only guessing.

I just called the Power Masters at 1888 244 5554 and was told that they are shut down and out of business and would not comment further about it.
