Tail Light Lenses

All my tail light lenses were looking pretty dull and faded so I took a couple hours today to clean and polish them up. I took them off and washed them inside and out and then used some automotive cutting compound and a buffer to gently polish them. Look like new now, I'm sure they will appear brighter to traffic as well.

They look great. What auto cutting compound did you use?

I used some Presta Ultra Cutting Crème....not very aggressive. Followed up with a little Turtle Wax Polishing Compound by hand. I think just about anything with even a little bit of grit will polish plastic lenses really well.

Is this something that is permanent or is this a periodic job? If periodic, how long was it since you last time cleaned them? What an improvement.

Ha! It's an '07 and this is the first time I have polished them though they have needed it for quite some time.....I would think that it will be another couple years before I would have to hand polish them with some polishing compound.

I used a scratch and swirl remover on mine and it turned out great. You can also use a headlamp restoration kit on tail lamps as well.

Unfortunately it does not last very long, I did mine 6 months ago and they are getting dull again

You might try some clear coat with UV protection on them. Again, many of the headlamp restoration kits have a clear coating to apply after completion of the cleaning and polishing process.
