We have a 2009 Canyon Star 3510 and was wondering if anyone knows if it is ok to tap off the electrical outlet located in the front basement bay that is used for the converter/inverter?

I noticed that there is only one outlet and thought to plug in a surge protected bank of outlets so that I can plug in my portable Ice maker while camping. This Ice maker only draws 2.3 amps. Anyone know of any problems that could be encountered as a result of this mod?

Thanks in advance for any info!!

ddw1949 - Don't think there would be a problem, guess I would research how many amps the converter draws. As an alternative, don't you have a double outlet in the second compartment back from your door on that side? I do on my CS and the 09 and 10's were virtually the same.

As long as you don't tamper with the circuit breaker you should be fine. If you starting popping the breaker then you’re drawing too much current, but my guess 2 or 3 amps won't cause any problem on what should be at least a 15 amp circuit.

You are correct... The second hatch back does have a double outlet as it also contains the basement LCD TV, however, this is where I had the ice maker to start with but with limited access due to the hatch not going all the way up because it is directly under the furnace heat exhaust. This meant that you had to almost crawl under the hatch to gain access.

I'd use the TV outlet and place a hole through bottom of compartment for your cord to dress through.
Use a access hole cover.

To the O/P.. The only danger is you might trip the breaker if the batteries are way down.. However,,, I suspect that danger is minor.

your Ice maker draws 2.3 (or whatever you said) RUNNING, but might draw several times that when starting.. So be careful out there.

But worst case is CLICK. and it stops working, if that happens you will know "Can't do it"

As stated, probably not a problem tapping into converter plug but, if it was me, I would figure out a way to tap into the double outlet and leave my converter alone. Maybe 007's suggestion ?

Incidentally, my access door on that compartment, while restricted due to the furnace outlet you mentioned, still lifts high enough to access the plugs without stooping down. Maybe the model makes a difference and I don't have the o/s tv.
