Telescoping ladder for Dutch Star

Since Newmar has discontinued the rear ladder for access to the roof, a telescoping ladder appears to be the most logical approach. Reviewing most of the customer comments on telescoping ladders at the Amazon web site, most appear to be flimsy and not worth the price. Has anyone found a sturdy telescoping ladder at a reasonable price? I have seen some campers inspect and blow off leaves and twigs before retracting their FWS. Typically we have inspected the roof perhaps twice a year, but with a FWS is their a need to do it more often?

I purchased this one from Amazon. It is a quality ladder and easy to store.

That's the one that I purchased also. I love it....really well made. There is also a separate protective cover that you can order for the top rung so that it doesn't scratch your paint:

I have a Telescoping ladder I use but it is not long enough to get me on the roof.. It is rated 250 pounds (And tested to 500) I'm 320 shower weight and have no problems with it. I like it a lot.
I have a longer extendsion/step ladder, also 250 rated, also tested to 2x the rating, I use for roof access.. I really wish I had a longer telescoping.

But the last thing I'd call it is "Flimsy"

Suggestion get one at least 4 feet longer than your RV is tall, 3 at the minimum but 4 is better.

X4 nothing flimsy about it. I've been up a few times for washing but other than that unless there is a problem I don't have a reason to go up.

I bought a 17 ft. XtendandClimb telescopic ladder. I believe it is rated for 300 lbs. I don't think it is flimsy at all. It fits in the basement very easily and is easy to use. I use it whenever we've parked under trees to check for leaves/limbs etc. prior to bringing in the slides. It is tall enough to provide easy access to the roof. I'd buy it again.....

I use it almost every RV trip to clean off all the bug splatter on the top front cap and windshield. When I was doing it this past trip, someone came over and wanted to know where I bought my ladder.

I just bought one, and it works great. I do caution just a bit that putting it down can be a little tricky and you need to watch your fingers. They try to make it foolproof, but there are still ways you can get hurt. I know some professionals who used it for awhile but stopped, although they said it wasn't a knock against it, just not really for everyday use.

Wam16, the only extending ladder I could find close to that length is actually shown as 16.5 ft. And it seems to also fold in half and double as a step ladder...... Is that the one you got? If so, do you find it sturdy enough to get to the roof and actually climb up onto the roof? My roof is 13 ft. tall and using anything less than 16 ft. Seems like it would not be long enough to reach above the roof line at the necessary angle to allow me safe roof access...... Any comments on this would be appreciated.

Snickers, I have the same coach... Which model ladder did you get? Are you able to climb onto the roof with it? Does it reach above the roof edge so that you can easily get onto the ladder from the roof?
