Just received a box from Spartan Chassis that contained a new belt and this belt guard...Here are three pics of the guard.

I believe this is the fashion that it will be installed....as there were no instructions I am waiting (hoping) Peter can get with the coach owner at River Bend and send me pics of what his installation looks like.

Bob, Bill is not back from whereever yet. When he does I will get to check it out and will call you. I would think the open end would go down or down and left.

Peter, I hope this is similar to what you're looking at,as this is about the only way we could get the guard to work...

I'm also amazed with all the "surface" rust that's all over the engine components...

The surface rust is standard. Ever try keeping paint on a running surface of a pulley? These are not automobiles that are run every day. Let's not confuse issues with non-issues.

Bob, Bill just got back, after dark. I will catch him in the morning for a look.

Caravaning with some friends down Lookout Mountain in Tennessee today on the 6% grade I was very reluctant to use the engine brake... used it sparingly on the low postion as I was afraid of the dreaded fan belt wearing against the frame.

Until I get the "fix" from Spartan, I could envision the same thing as what happened to Road Pilot and others. At a rest stop later when the group took a break, I could see some wear on the belt and some marks on the brace where it had contact with the belt. Glad the rest of the trip to Florida is relatively flat so I won't have to use it much.

Chuck, Road Pilot's most recent issue is with the fan ITSELF coming off and NOT the belt.

Actually it just stops turning and when you reach in to spin it,it FALLS off the shaft...

I stand corrected as to his problem, but that does not make me feel better about the fan belt wear. Now it means just another issue to worry about.

Based on looking at this picture I sent him in an email, along with a pic of the bracket install I've received a "vote of confidence" from Chris Friar of Spartan...
His only reply was "It looks fine...Happy New Year", so I'm moving on....

Bob,

Our fan came off the shaft. It hit the radiator and the fan shroud in the process leaving large chunks of fiberglass fan material in the radiator. We are very lucky it didn't cause a leak in the radiator.

By the way we made it to Coach Care in Tampa. Arrived minutes ago. I checked our fan belt which is the latest style and it's pristine. No sign it's hit anything.

Dick, from your post in the other topic it looks like you may be getting the latest rub remedy....

Check your knuckles after you put THAT thing on and the only way it works is to thread the bolt from the bottom and try and line up the nut with your other hand "inside" the "c" part as it faces left......
