Thetford toilet #060220

The parts list that is mounted to the wall in the closet states that the toilet in our Newmar Ventana is model 060220. Anyways, can the top seal be changed without removing the whole thing? Water won't stay in the bowl for any time at all. Letting the tank odor back into the coach.

Any help will be appreciated.

I'm not sure what that would look like. What year (coach) and type of toilet?

Is it the standard step peddle flush or the new electric?

Ken,

If the toilet is a manual flush with a foot pedal or hand lever; you will need to remove toilet and then take a part to get to seal. It is not that hard to do just messy. Also if you can get the model number you can download manual for Thetford and you can call Thetford they are very helpful.

Good Luck

If you can lock the toilet open try gently scraping the bottom of the seal with the end of a metal hanger, being careful not to tear the seal. Sometimes debris gets caught in the seal. If this works it's a quick fix. Also, consider wiping some Vaseline on the seal (I recommend wear gloves for this ). It will lubricate it and help it seal.

KenandKaren Dan gives good advice, however I would use Silicon Grease rather than vaseline which is petroluem based and can cause damage to the seals. Silican Grease is found with plumbing supplies at HD and Lowes.

Thanks a billion Terry43 and Dan. Yes, Terry, it is the Aqua Magic Style Plus. I will attempt the coat hanger/brush with silicon grease. Again, thanks guys, I really appreciated your input.

I bought a round toilet brush that fits the round hole on ours and occasionally I just put it in the hole and spin it. This has eliminated any problems we used to have in the water leaking out of the bowl. Haven't tried any Vaseline or lube on the seal yet.
