I carry an epipen due to a bee sting. The same as you, I had no prior problems with stings except for the pain that is. Being around them is a concern, but what's really bad is when someone starts swatting at them. Hopefully you'll have room to walk away. Good luck. Also the pens have a two year shelf life, don't let the pharmacy give you an old one.
