Tire Covers on Shaded Side?
We are positioned where only one side of our motor home is in the daily sunshine. I put tire covers over the wheels on the sunny side and left them off on the shaded side. Does my logic make sense that the shaded side tires do not need the protection of tire covers?

I do the same if one side is either in the shade or only gets a little sun in the early mornings.
Waiting to see responses.

Tire covers is for tire protection from uv rays, shade or no shade uv rays are present so I say don’t be lazy if you are going to cover the tires do both sides just my two cents

The need for tire covers on the sunny side is obvious, but depending on the season the sun might eventually get pretty close to shining on the other side. Even if it didn't shine directly on that side, reflected light just may be a factor.
Since tire covers are relatively cheap in the first place, I'd also say cover up the shady side too.

My tires are shaded when I store at home, however I use tire covers.
The reason being I always wash my coach when I get back from a trip and the covers keep my wheels nice and clean.

Hey zzote, it's not a matter of being lazy. With a bad back, those tire covers are a pain to install.

I didn’t know uv rays would bend without reflection of some sort?

My tire covers were not actually cheap, or at least at $60 to $70 a wheel not what I would consider cheap.
Even though the material mine is made out of is breathable mesh type, they still help keep the wheels and tires clean. Plus my TPMS sensors are not on display for everyone to see (just in case they are missing one).
I put all of mine on if I am sitting in one place for a week or longer.
If I get to the point where it is extremely hard for me to put them on due to physical issues then I'll probably adjust that to only putting them on when I am stationary for a month or longer.

My motorhome sits facing directly west. The drivers side gets full sun and the passenger side is fully shaded. I only cover the drivers side. Two weeks ago I threw away the two old tire covers and started using the other two covers. The old covers were 9 years old and rotten. This way I will get 18 years of service out of my cover set. My tires that are uncovered are ten years old and look like new. I have a new set of tires to install next week. I was going to install the new toyo tires today, but it is raining in Georgia.oh well, at 79 years old I need a day off.

We only cover the sunny side, but I am sure that covers on the shady side add some value, just not worth the expense and work to me.

I cover the trailer tires so I don't have to look at them and they stay cleaner. Most people don't cover their driving vehicle tires, like toad or TV. If your intent is to extend the life of your tires, then covering them don't help. In seven years the tires will need to be replaced anyway.

While I agree that people don't cover their toad or tow vehicle tires, that is mainly because those tires have to be changed out due to miles long before they age out. I never had a set of tires on any car, pickup, or motorcycle that dry rotted before the tread was gone.
I know there are many that don't think UV shortens the life of RV tires. I'm not a scientist so I can't say 100% either way. I just know that we move around 12 months out of the year and stay in the sun. If covering my tires lets me get 7 years out of them instead of 5 or 6 then I'm good with doing that.

We only cover ours when parked at home (storage). I cover all six wheels for sun protection and to keep the rims nice. I use the white Camco covers. I've learned to install all six BEFORE I air down, or it's really tough to get my hands/arm between the tires and body.
