To DutchStar Owners

I well spent my morning at NIRVC Atlanta test driving and going over numbers for DS and Anthem. On Monday Iím touring Newmars Factory and Entegras on Tuesday. Then its off to the Hershey Show. The ride quality and fit/finish seem to be comparable. The prices are comparable as the Anthem is discounted to a greater degree. I love the 360 degree overhead view cameras on the Newmar.
As a solo traveler without a spotter it seems it would be much easier to back up.

My questions to DS owners, first 10KW gen vs 12.5KW gen., do you ever wish you had more gen power? Second, 2800W inverter, vs (2) 3K inverters, is it overkill by Entegra? And third, how important is air leveling?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Wish I was with you for the tours and Hershey!

A couple of questions,

1. Don't overlook the elephant in the room - Comfort Drive!
2. What floor plan are you looking at?
3. With 2 - 3kW inverters is the Entegra 50 amps or one of the 100 amp rigs usually seen on the Marathon or Liberty?
4. 2 or 3 a/c's?

We have a 4018 and our 10kW genny gets the job done for us. I don't remember if the 12.5 was available on ours. I suppose a extra 2.5 kW would be nice but haven't missed what I don't have.

Hi - On our 4369 the 10K generator is fine. As is the size of the inverter. We had air leveling (Valid) in a previous coach and I miss it on occasion but it's not a deal breaker. Much rather have the Comfort Drive, larger tires, three stage engine brake, eight AGM batteries and a family owned company that wasn't just bought by a corporation. There are a lot of nice features on the Anthem but for me many fall into the category of bling rather than substance. Every one has different things that they like. For us the Dutch Star fit the bill.

We've looked at both and obviously chose the Entegra. Since this is our 5th coach, we've been around the block several times. We love the Newmar's and the Entegra's both. Each has pluses and very few minuses. I won't comment on Comfort Drive, air leveling, inverters or generator capacity - I don't think any of them are deal breakers nor should they be.

For us the issue has been floorplan. We have learned to start there. Again lots of differences but we perferred the Entegra's but clearly that is just personal preference.

That would be our advice - pick your favorite floorplan and go from there. As I saw on another forum - that is where you will spend your time.

Good luck - you have the right dealer!!

Try to drive both MHs. If your planning on a lot of travel the Newmar's Comfort Drive could be very significant to you.

Hung wall construction is a HUGE difference and gives Newmar a step above any Thor product.

10 KW generator is more than ample and the Comfort Drive is a requirement for me.

May want to get some feedback about Entegras warranty work from some mobile RV techs. Have an acquaintance who is a tech and owned an Entegra. Told Entegra to lose his number because of their cutting back on reimbursements after they were bought out by Thor. http://great-escape.us/entegra-customer/

Entegra also uses hung wall construction.

Specials, want to have your motorhome be the way you like it? Colors? Flooring? Electrical options? You choose, more options with Newmar, but in the end, itís what makes you happy.
Entegra warranty is a factor as is overall build quality. I drove Entegra, Newmar on a FL chassis, Newmar on a Spartan chassis. For us, it was an easy decision, Newmar on a FL chassis. Good luck, have fun!

This is the #1 thing to me about buying an Entegra. I had a Jayco top line unit that the quality was horrendous. It took them all of the 2 year warranty to get some of it fixed. I fear Thor is not going to be better.

Thanks for all the input. I really value the sum experiences of the contributors on this forum which Ive been lurking on for some time. I donít think I had an adequate length of drive, or conditions to appreciate the comfort drive on the Newmar. I understand it really shines in crosswinds which I didnít experience. To me, the Entegra drove better by a very small margin, the dealer suggested that is just the difference in chassis. I absolutely like the variety of floor plans Newmar offers, plus the ability to put in specials. Hopefully I`ll be able to see and sit in a variety of floor plans at Hershey.

Sitting in coaches at Hersey will not allow you to experience the comfort drive. Neither will driving around the block. I put 15,000 miles a year on a coach and it's not just crosswinds. I would not be without it, or heated floors. But if you mostly sit in campgrounds, you'll be just fine with either coach. Just my 2 cents
