Toad Braking System

We finally decided on ordering new 19 Mountain Aire 4018 with Spartan K3 chassis.
I realize K3 comes standard with Air Force One installed on coach. However installing
second AF1 module on 18 Jeep Wrangler JL will be problematic due to under the hood space limitations.

Q) Im sure some Newmar folks have encountered this issue so wondering how you handled the toad breaking system?

Trailer hitch folks are recommending RVibrake3 system. Probably cost about same to
install second AF1 module to Jeep.

Any comments would be welcome.

You can also install an M&G on the Jeep. Works just fine with the factory installed coach side.

I have the rvi3 brake and it works great. Having said that, I bought it for a previous MH. If I were starting from scratch I would use the air brake. You only have one line to hook up. There’s no storing of the brake module. You also have to install the rvi3 every time you tow.

That Jeep Wrangler must be really space challenged! The towed-side AF1 module easily fits in our 2014 Honda CR-V. And, it works great! I'd have an experienced installer at least take a look at the possibility of fitting the AF1 module in.

Yes the 3.6L V6 takes up a lot of space under the hood but youre right, i should at least run it by an experienced installer.

The M&G ONLY works if there is space for the larger master cylinder. The Air Force One under hood unit is only about 1.5" tall. On my GMC Canyon, I attached it to the top of the air cleaner box. On my 2014 CRV I attached it to corner of the engine compartment above the RF headlight. It's not heavy and can tie wrapped into position if necessary.

Hard to believe there's no place to put the Air Force One brake controller in your Toad. Sometimes photos make things clearer. So here's the AF1 controller in our 2014 Honda CR-V. It was professionally installed (not cheap!).

As others have mentioned, once it's installed, that's it. Nothing more to do in the Toad. The brake pedal mod is permanent and there's no portable adjustable thing you have to place and fasten into place. It just works -- and works well. Very slick.

Air Force one

I have the air force one system fitted to my 2008 Jeep Wrangler and it fits nicely by the battery in a vertical position, it is a very clean install.

Toad Braking System

ColCruiser. I have a 2018 JL Rubicon and started the AF1 install last week. The control module is easily Velcroed on top of the passenger side fuse box and stays secure. The 1/4” air line can be run into the JL at the wiring grommet on the same side and under the dash to the driver side.

The 4 mounting blots used at the brake pedal appear to be to short so I have to run out to Ace and get some longer.

The install is time consuming but not bad. I ran my lines but need to do the final connections. Click image for larger version

I also had the dealer look for the best place for the brake vacuum line and they suggested not cutting into the factory lines. Pull this hose and connect here. Driver side near front of engine. . Click image for larger version

We have the M&G and find it to be an excellent system. With a system so important, do your homework and decide which one is the best fit for you.

I installed the Roadmaster Invisibrake and it is working perfectly. My hobby is making RV How To videos and you can check out the install video here.

No clunky brake systems to set up every time you move. Install it once and forget it.
