On My 06 Mtn Aire 4309, which is 4 slides, there is no topper on the door slide front slide. There is a Girard awning just above which I rarely use. I have not had any problems on very rainy days but just wondering why this is the only slide-out without one?? I know the top of the slide is angled towards the outside but is this good enough??

There is no topper because the awning is supposed to serve that function...but I wish I had a topper because in windy rainy weather, you CAN get water coming in that slideout without the awning out...I leave my awning out a little to cover the slideout but with the wind, it wont stay out for long...I think Newmar cut a corner in the wrong place by leaving the topper out here...

You just put the Girard out far enough to fit over the slide( I think) Is kinda dumb. I hardly ever use the awning.06' Essex

Dumb or not, I put the main awning out enough to cover the slide and then a bit more. Been doing this since I got the coach. Covering the slide does wonders for keeping the temp down in the summer heat. If it is windy, I turn off the auto retract feature. The awning is not out far enough to suffer any damage. I have been in some very windy weather.

I beleive the reason for no slideout awning is the slideout room is too high to have room for both, from what I could see when we we;re recently looking as DSDP, I may be wrong, but it sure looked like there wasn't enough room to have both. Prefer the extra cabinet height on the kitchen side slide.

DBeauchamp,

On my '05 MADP 4304, there is no room on the top of the slide for 2 awnings. I have not had any problems, but sweep the top of the slide before retracting.

I have a slide topper and a awning on the off door side. Plenty of room on my Essex.

Yes, I have toppers on the other 3 slides also but no awning on the off door side. It's the slide on the door side (front) that has no topper. There is a Girard awning above it and it seems high enough that there would be room for a topper. I am visiting the dealer shortly and plan to ask.. Was just wondering if anybody else did anything about this?

Next time you see a right front slide with a topper and awning above topper you will see that big awning is on a brace and up a few inches so topper will fit..see Winni and Allegros...Newmar has opted no to do that...not sure brightest move..I do as GaryKD.

I DO have the Girard and it probably would clear a slide topper
