When monitoring my power use, I fine that there is delay when the generator starts in getting voltage to 2nd leg. I know there is usually a delay of 30 seconds or so in the generator providing power after it is first started, but the problem here is a delay in seeing voltage the leg 2 after leg 1 is already reading 120 v. After starting the generator the 1st leg will read 120 volts after about 30 seconds and leg 2 reads 0 volts. There will also be wiring error noted. Then after about an additional 30 to 60 second delay, leg two will read 120 volts, and the error message goes away. Is this delay in seeing voltage between the 2 legs normal operation or do I have a the beginnings of a transfer swith prolbem.

Thanks.

You may have a loose screw connection on that leg and the high resistance could cause wiring to heat up and melt insulation on wiring.
I would shut everything down and check connection in TS and at a surge protector if you have it protecting load center from Gen.
Be careful working in TS control may have a charge stored.
Screws would be off the relay connections.

Quick update.

The transfer switch was fine. It was the beginnings of electronic component failure with the generator. The generator inverter was going and evuatually would have totally failure. Lucky I was reviewing the monitors to catch the problem early. Also luck for the extened warranty - $628 for labor and $965 for the part. I am now 50% of the way of pay back on the warranty with 3 years to go.
