TripTek Tire Monitoring

Just a quick question for any of you that have a TripTek system with the Smartire option.
What kind of battery life are you getting from the tire sensors? My coach is a 2008 and it seems that ALL 10 sensors have stopped sending. I have a spare sensor and activated it, the triptek receiver saw that device so the receive side seems to be working. It is just so surprising to have all the units quit at essentially the same time!
Thanks-Steve

Mine have run 7 years with no issues. I agree, it seems strange that all dropped out at the same time. The SmarTire sensor are a pain to replace as the tires must be at least partially removed to access.

According to their brochure, the batteries are good for 5 to 7 years.

That sure does seem coincidental, Steve. Somehow I can't figure how you have 10 sensors with a 45 ft coach...and toad? Or are you towing a bike?

I'm told I have an antenna for the two rear axles plus one for the fronts. Tomorrow they're installing an other antenna for the toad, located somewhere near the rear hitch? But I have been having issues with some of the rear wheel sensors, so Coretronics sent me a new cable they are going to install...wonder if you have a similar issue?

Dang slabman caught me! Only eight. I do have 2 antennas for the rear of the coach and one up front. I found a used receiver/monitor/sensor/initiator deal on ebay, will try and see if that is able to see my sensors.

Guess I will go digging to see if I can find a bad connection somewhere.

Thanks all

Thanks Peter, yea there will be no joy in getting them replaced (and they ate pricey too!)

Spinn, I bought a 4wheel kit for my car and it set me back about $280.00 shipped. fWIW. I thought about doing "5" wheels, but decided to re-count and it came out to 4!!!!!

All mine were still working last November, which was about 5.5 years. We'll see what we get in a couple weeks when I move the beast again.

Steve,
I had a sensor fail and I was sent an "isolation procedure" to verify the sensor failure. We're on the road, but let me dig through my books and see if I still have the procedure.

Spinn, yesterday I went to the North Trail chassis shop to have them work on my tpms. I told them about your issue and both people there were doubtful all 8 or 10?(lol!) sensors had battery failure simultaneously. They think you have a receiver module failure.

As described to me, you have a module behind the speedo which receives signals from your wheels and transmits to the TripTek. The rear antenna is wired into this box and any wires, etc. around it will mess with those signals. They felt this box is likely the culprit.

Assuming good batteries all installed out of the same batch at the same time working under the same conditions I am not surprised that they all failed about the same time. Even if they did not they would be daisy chaining over a relatively short period of time so I would be recommending the rest were replaced about the time the second one went.

Consider how a primary battery works. A chemical soup is sealed in a can that has an insulated seal between the lid and the can body. When an outside circuit is completed there is a measurable and predictable amount of power that can be delivered. The same with the load in the sensors. Everything failing at the same time is the ideal target. All processes worked consistently. ;-) 6 years on the batteries say they also worked well.

Thanks Slabman. The kit I bought through ebay included a receiver a soon as I am able I will start digging in the console area to exchange the unit. Having been behind there once before I named the place "the forest of many wires", not looking forward to playing in there again!
