Trouble with Dometic thermostat
I have a 2015 BayStar that I bought last fall, I'll admit this is all new to me. Seems as though the AC doesn't work very well, no cool air coming through ceiling vents. I notice the inside temp mode is incorrect, just I replace the thermostat? Thanks

Tried running AC off generator today and just semi cool air. I did notice that before AC was turned on the thermostat was correct in regard to inside temp, but once I turned AC on the inside temp read incorrect, off by 40 degrees. Replace thermostat? Thanks

Hi bevo7,
Call Newmar Customer Service. Is the coach under warranty? When the compressor is running there should be very cold air coming from the vents. It matters not if it has 1 degree or 40 degrees to go to the desired temp.

On our Dutch Star, remote mounted thermistors provide temperature control temperature, not the wall mounted thermostat.
You may or may not have a thermostat issue, just thought it might help to know where the temperature is sampled.

X2
The remote thermistor is a black round object about 2" in diameter. Has a grill looking hump in the center. Typically mounted centrally in the floor plan. Mine WAS mounted to the underside of the cabinet in the living room slide. It has been moved by service techs after complaining about inaccurate temperature control and readings. They relocated it to the interior end of a window valance on the slide. They are trying to get the unit more in the air flow and not in a dead air space like it was.
After that, I did my own investigative work to figure out this:
1. With the thermostat off and accessing the thermostat's room temperature, it reads from a thermistor mounted INSIDE the thermostat.
2. With the thermostat on in some/any mode the temperature is being accessed through the remote thermistor.
The difference can be quite a bit, depending on environmental conditions like sunlight beaming in.
The interesting thing is that my condition is just the opposite of yours. My temperature control is very sketchy (wide variations) on furnace, but with heat pump or A/C it's fine.
One last point I'm trying to learn...these are RV units. Not residential. They are far slower to react and make temperature changes compared to a residential unit. Patience is not one of my virtues, or so I'm told.
I hope this helps a bit.

I would call dometic. On my DS my thermostat was acting up. They told me to try a reset on the thermostat. Took care of my problem. It seemed to have a mind of its own.

We have problems with the thermistor that is mounted in the bedroom area. They mounted to the side of the cabinet that frames the egress window. The sun shining on that side of the coach will artificially heat up that area, and give a false reading. I bought a small fan to circulate the air in that area, and that has helped a little.
Ultimately, I would like to relocate the sensor to a better area, but I am concerned about cutting the wire and splicing in (to add length) and messing up the reading of the sensor. Has anyone added additional length to their thermistor wire and did it have any adverse affects to its function?

My bedroom thermistor was mounted on an outside wall! I mounted a thermistor in a warm air return vent. Ran the wires through the ducts to the roof top unit. Disconnect the wires to the original thermistor and connected the wires to the newly place thermistor. The placement required wrapping the thermistor in plastic. This was done to desensitize the thermistor. Works great.
This is the same principle as a window A/C unit. The thermistor is usually mounted behind the filter and before the evaporator.

That's a great idea with this exception: In my coach there are 2 discrete systems; one for the furnace and one for the rooftop unit. Therefore, there are 2 return air systems. Furnace return is at the floor level, while rooftop return is in the ceiling. That complicates relocating the thermistor to a return air duct, for my coach.
