If it is just the pop up portion that you want to remove, it just requires you to unscrew that part by hand. If you want to remove the entire fixture to replace it, you need to purchase a special tool that will fit on your 3/8 ths socket wench. ( Fairly inexpensive at Lowes or ACE, ask for a drain removal tool) That will allow you to unscrew the entire fitting from the drain. It is fairly easy to do as I did it on my 04 Dutch Star.
Hope this helps.

I had a slow draining shower on my 05 KSDP and did not remove the drain cover. Instead I used a boiling pot of water with with a spoon of detergent and put it into the drain. Let it sit for an hour! Then cover the drain with a sheet of plastic and fill the shower one inch deep, take a plunger, pull the plastic and plunge away. It worked great.

Hi Don M.,
A plunger is the first thing I would try. If that does not work, next is Drano. I have done both (not at the same time) several times. Fill the grey tank to 1/2. Use Drano per the instructions. Fill the grey tank and dump.

Our shower drain cover just doesn't come out--'06 DSDP. We tried a Zip-it to clean out the hair, but the Zip-it was too big. (Zip-it's are found at any hardware store for around $4.)

Hubby made a smaller version by snipping slanted clips into a the side of a tie wrap. The small size is perfect and the price is right. Just stick it into the drain a few times and it hooks the hair clog. Problem solved!

No, not Drano, use baking soda and white vinegar, follow with hot hot water, repeat if needed.

We have a 2000DSDP 40 footer. Many times the shower drain would clog and most times cause an odor problem. The old drain cover was really cinched on and I was afraid to pry too hard to get it off. A few times I ran something thin down the drain and would catch a strand of hair and wind up pulling out quite the wad. Sometimes, with great difficulty, I would remove the small access cover under the shower floor and disassemble the elbow and give it a good clean.

Finally the drain cover began to degrade so I ordered a new one from Newmar for about $16. Newmar can scare me with their pricing (They wanted $550 for a chrome exhaust tip that I bought for $70 from an exhaust parts company) but I thought it best to order their part. The new one has a cover that easily pops right up. The openings of the cover are a little larger which could eat small items. Getting it installled through the small opening, again was a task for this not so handy handyman.

Hope this helps,

Bob and Tammy

Hi oldcouple,
Why do you not agree with my post? I've been doing this since 1978 with success and no side effects. Follow as I posted and it works.

If the Drano does not work, how are you gonna remove the puddle or Drano from the shower? It is a caustic chemical and will cause burns to the skin, a drain that is plugged and filled with Drano is a serious hazard to everything it splashes on. And do not take it personal, it is discussion forum.

The internet is a wonderful place with all the information one can gather from web sites.
We have compiled as much as any of them but we can still learn more from others.
To solve a problem we would make sure its safe to use once its been cleared.
