Hi all,
Back from the Tampa show. I found out more about
Newmars plans for the UFO. At this time Newmar
is not planning on using this platform . Why you ask. Well it will add about 7k to the price. And with only 12 units sold in 2006 Newmar feels the MACA is priced out of the market. Now, for my rebuttal. With the new cost of the diesel engine (15-25k more) I think this is a great option for people that can't afford the DP but still want a top notch coach. If you feel the same please respond so that Newmar gets the message . I will buy one in a heart beat. I have a MACA on the W22 and love it. And from everything I saw at the show the UFO will ride even better.
P.S. It was built so air suspension can be added easily.

I think 15-25k more may be stretched for the new engines. 6 to 10k may be more realistic. Even at that it will be a hard up hill sale in a less than stellar market.

Dick Parks said that you can count on a 15-20k increase.

From what I've seen in recent months, Newmar has a pretty good pulse on what is going on in the industry and I'm certain the decision to not currently use the UFO is based on some good old head banging with respect to the guys in Nappanee...

Newmar's business plan seems to be to position themselves equally against it's competeitors.
Let's see where it goes...

Peter, I can't imagine he'd be that far off...

I for one can't wait to see the new catalytic converters that will be "mated" to the engine on the same pallet.

I was told in Nappanee the catalytic converter will add 150-165 pounds to the weight of the engine.

Boy that sure will throw a wet blanket on sales. Sure glad for those of us that bit the bullet before they pulled the trigger on this one. It will also drive used prices on late model coaches up somewhat.

According to the guys at Newmar there will be nothing to gain for your 15-20k other then the fact that it will run hotter and if you lay awake at night worrying about the ozone you will be able to rest a little easer.

If they had the UFO with the 8.1 would give it ago but some where I heard they were changing out the 8.1 engine. The 15-25k maybe for the Diesels they plan on offering on UFO IN 08.

I can't really blame Newmar. I would NOT want a Workhorse UFO at all for the first few years until the bugs are worked out in the field. From my experiences with the 2003 W22 we had, I think Workhorse does a lot of Beta testing and concept quality control AFTER the sale and lets the customer hassle with the problems.

The projected new diesel pricing and emissions stuff is one of the reasons we decided to go ahead and buy the DP now. All these folks have to make a profit off their investments - the new engine parts and filters folks make a profit off the new stuff, the engine manufacturer makes a profit, the chassis folks make a profit, then Newmar makes a profit and the dealer makes a profit - all based on their higher cost of inventory investments and cash outlays. An increase of 10-15K would not surprise me after everybody gets their bite of the apple.

BTW---That is one pretty LADP. I can't imagine ever affording one and our stick house, boat etc. at the same time - but if I hit the Lotto - watch out.
