I experienced a slight sound at road speeds of about 25 to 50 MPH. It seemed only speed related and sounded like a snow tire. This happen prior to my return from Florida to home. On the way north I drove it 670 miles the first day and immediately took a temperature reading at both front hubs. Both were about the same and well within normal. I had contacted Spartan and they were expecting me.
Upon arriving they checked the bearing play and found it to be within spec's. They installed two test tire/wheels to determine if the tires were causing the issue. No change.
Finally the tech got Chris McCord to ride with him. Upon their return Chris said it was the right front bearing. The tech pulled it off and found the bearing fine but the race was pitted. He replaced the assembly and, bingo, all quiet.
Very unusual to have a failure of a bearing yet no heat, even after two 650+ mile days. So, keep that one in mind.
Good going Chris, and the Spartan tech's. Their service is top shelf. It sure makes me think Newmar has made an error going to Freightliner on their MA and down. Spartan may cost more, but you get what you pay for, and the service is unbeatable.
Thanks Spartan
