I've had a 2000 DSDP since 2003 and love the coach, but it is time to upgrade. I will be taking delivery of a 2007 MADP model 4121 this week. I am very excited about all this new coach (new to me) has to offer. I may however want to upgrade some of the features like a navigation system, among others. Does it make sense to stick with original equipment on this....like adding navigation to the backup monitor?
Thanks,
Larry Bergo

Larry - first of all congratulations on your new unit! And welcome to irv2.
My MADP came with the nav system & my recommendation is DO NOT add to yours.
The technology in the built-ins can't be upgraded, and the cost of new maps can easily cost more than a new Garmin unit.
So, want navs? Buy a Garmin & put it on the dashboard. You'll be able to see it much easier & don't have to take your eyes all the way off the road to read it. And in a few years, when it needs upgrading, get a new state-of-the-art unit with the latest maps for less than the map upgrades for the built in.

Hey, congrats on the upgrade. What a great coach. Wish we could move on up as well but the old MACA will have to do for now. Happy Motoring!!!!

Welcome LARRY to the Newmar forum & irv2.
Congrats on your new Newmar. You have received good advise upgrade to new Garmin and install on dash in front of you or to the left hand side.
Mine I have directly in front and works just fine.
Its a older model but plan on getting a more updated one in near future.
Enjoy the forums and do post often.

Thanks and yes....I am excited. My DSDP has served me well so I know Newmar quality. I will take the Navigation advice and continue using my Garmin. No doubt, I will be busy learning all the new systems, so adding on right now might not be the best use of my time. My 4121 has the entertainment equipment over the refrigerator....lots of room there. I am having the Traveler 1000 moved from my DSDP and replace the King Dome as I am a current user of Dish Network and the Traveler is bullet proof. No experience with the King Dome, so I would rather not take a chance.

Sorry, I missed it was the Canadian 41', no difference, great rig. You must be happy. The orignal idea for the 41' was to be able to sell into Canada. Much of Canada, certainly Ontario, only allows 41' All other require a permit. No big deal now to get a permit.
Enjoy, you are going to love it. I too had a DSDP '02 41', best coach I ever had.
Best of luck.

I didn't know that. I need to stay around 40' to be able to park next to my house. It would be a squeeze at 43' and I would rather keep the "wiggle" room I currently have. I was looking to stay with the DSDP, but when I came accross this 41' MA....I couldn't resist.
Thanks,
Larry

I agree with the comments about Garmin. We have a 2008 Mountain Aire with the Pioneer nav system built in. I used it once and then installed a Garmin. It is far superior to the Pioneer system, and I can put it on the dash within easy viewing. Any Garmin is better than the Pioneer and you can always update the Garmin software and map easily and relatively cheaply.

Congrats! Very nice coach.
I agree with the other advice. The factory nav is quite terrible -- the Garmin on the other hand is a real lifesaver and a treat to use.
You'll be very pleased with the ride. Hope you have many, many trouble-free miles. Be sure to post some pics when you get it.
