I have a 2014 Canyon Star 3953 and no longer use that special bar for locking the slides. The only one I have a problem with is the one on the left side of the bed where the picture is. There is no room to use that bar. I stand on the bed and reach over the slide to engage the slide lock. I also put strips of indoor/outdoor carpet under the slide rollers to protect the flooring. The rollers will leave a mark on the floor where they sit while in the travel mode.

Hi,
My coach is 11 years old. I have used the locks since the coach was purchased (new). The benefit of the locks are:
1. Provide a more solid connection to the coach wall during travel. Less noise, vibration and wind/rain leaks.
2. The slides may move during travel. Usually they creep toward the front. This is because a coach stops faster than it accelerates. If the slides move too far, the reveal will be lost on the front side (vertical reveal). This is a slow movement and may happen over time. The slides will need to be adjusted back so the reveal is correct. Locking the slides helps minimize slide movement when traveling.

Have had two DSDP's, the '02 for 13 years. Only used the lock behind the drivers seat and then only to keep it from rattling.

We use the front locks on each slide. They work relatively easily by hand. The rear ones work by hand too but are hard to reach.
Did have one that was hard to use even with the bar, during warranty had it fixed so it works by hand.

We lock all 4 slides, a contributing factor to a rattle free ride.

Slide locks
We lock the large slide locks on our 3610. The bedroom slide is too difficult to lock and is not as large as the living room slide. I believe that one keeps the coach secure - when I release it, there is definitely tension on it.
