It was a cool morning but as the sun came up, I decided to turn on the roof air fans. Brought in a nice breeze as it warmed up outside. Later in the afternoon with the sun beating down on the roof, I wondered if the fans were pulling in the hot air from the roof of the motorhome. What do you think? Do the units on the roof pull the air from the roof area when using the fans or do they just circulate the inside air? Maybe I need to turn off the fans as it warms up outside.

If you mean the fan in the roof A/C units, they simply and always recirculate the INSIDE air.
If you mean the separate VENT fans, they typically exhaust the inside air to the outside.

I wasn't clear about which fans. I meant the ones in the AC units.

The A/C fans only recirculate. The breeze you felt was the outside morning breeze all by itself. The A/C fans added nothing other than stir the air inside.

I was at dealer getting repairs done on my new used Mtn Aire (warranty check). One of the things they did was cleaned the coil in the front A/C unit with air pressure. Got much better flow after this was done. If you search this forum I once saw a post about someone cleaning coils with a liquid solution on a regular basis...

We're going in for some warranty work this month and have A/C maintenance on our list.

DanielB, HERE is that cleaning info you were referring to.
You can find in Quick Tips among other things.
