Mounted on the firewall (under the hood in the front)of my Class A 1995 Dutch Star, is what appears to be a vacume pump. It has decided to continue cycling on and off in about 1-2 minute intervals. (like it is loosing its vacume due to a leak) As the hose dissapears into the wall, it is difficult to track. My question is, what is this pump used for? I may be contacted on trafalgarr@gmail.com thanks for any help in advance.

The vacuum pump is the source of power for the pneumatic system used to operate doors, valves, etc in the dash HVAC system. That's because the HVAC system is typically used in gasoline powered vechiles, which nearly always have a vacuum source integral to them. With a Diesel there needs to be a dedicated vacuum source.

Clearly you have a leak in the vacuum hoses or some other component. Troubleshoot by elimination: first block the fitting on the pump. If the pump stops pump is OK; if not pump is NG. Next open the far end of the first length of hose and block it. If the pump stops that length of hose is OK; if not that length of hose is NG. Repeat 'till you find it. Yes, it's a PITA...
