VDO Odometer Out

Strange behavior - I have a '98 Dutchstar DP with VDO gauges. My odometer for the most part is out. Sometimes when I first start the MH the odometer will work and I can tell that it is incrementing properly. Shortly after that the display will go out.

I am thinking that it may be a bad connection inside the odometer itself since it does appear to be incrementing.

Has anyone seen this behavior before? Can you recommend a repair place?

thanks,
Joe

Can you pull your dash and check behind it for loose wiring or plugs. The dash face may have screws around it to accomplish this move.
You may have a panel on top of dash for fuse panel access to do this also.

I had the same exact thing on my 1998 DSDP. Finally the odometer would not display at all. I could find nothing fixable. There are no connections that affect only the odometer portion of the guage. There are places that advertise that they fix these guages but the prices exceed that of a new replacement. I replaced mine. Very easy to do. The new ones have identical connections as the old ones. The problem of course is that my odometer started from zero. This will be hard to explain if I resell the MH but, I do not know a better alternative.

Paul O, where did you get your new odometer. I have a Beaver Patriot, Spartan Chassis and my odometer has been out for some time. My mileage counter is mechanical not electic/digital. I have researched replacing the broken gear I suspect is the problem but it would be a whole lot easier just replacing the gauge.

Thanks, Bob F.

Back in 2004 the odometer in my 2000 DSDP rest itself to zero and started counting again. I called Spartan and they said they would sell me a new speedometer for $400 and reset it with the correct mileage from the ECM. I chose to just keep the old one.

A year and a half later I traded it for a 2005 DS. I told the sales woman the stated mileage of 17,000 miles was wrong and I connected my VMSpc and got the correct mileage of over 66,000 miles. When I filled out the paperwork I checked the box that said the mileage was incorrect and the actual mileage was 66,XXX.
