The 3 vent caps on our 05' Dutch Star have deteriorated from UV exposure. What white adhesive caulk should we use for the replacements - is there a special primer too? Looking for a product in a tube, don't need a gallon!

You can use Dicor Lap Sealant on your Brite Tek Roof. You can also use EternaBond. EternaBond makes a double-sided tape that will allow you to seal the vent cap to the roof and a single-sided tape to finish the job. Many people swear by EternaBond and I will be using it when I have to seal our coach roof, which is also Brite Tek.

Here are a couple of items that you could place on your black tank vent.

Do you need to replace the entire unit or just the cap on top?

If you just need to replace the cap, most rv parts stores have the Camco caps available. I just went thru this and replace all 3 of mine.

Take care when removing the old caps, they will most likely crumble in your hands when you go to remove them. Try to prevent the crumbling plastic from falling down the vent pipe.

I think there is some confusion on what you mean by "vent caps". If you are talking about the caps on the end of the vent pipes for the holding tanks, they just pull off the end of the pipe (they may have a couple of screws holding them on) and new ones slide on--no caulk needed. If you are talking about the crank-open vents for ventilation, then Luv2Go is correct.

BONTEP are you sure you only have 3 vent caps? I have 4 and they are round. These caps are easily removed and replaced as stated earlier. Mine also degraded to a point where when I touched one it crumbled. Very cheap to replace.

My "bases" as well as the "caps" are crumbling - they're the ones over the vent stacks. I have new ones but see that I'll have to do a pretty clean job of removing the old ones and their adhesive caulk. Assuming I can get the area clean enough, the procedure for using double sided Eternabond for mounting to the roof then using single side Eternabond to cover that with sounds pretty thorough. Internet reading showed a number of adhesive caulks-sealers, many in gallon sizes, which needed special primers etc. - that got me in "caution mode" - I thought it was a simple matter to use a tube of Dicor or something but looks like that's not the case!

My caps crumbled as well. Thought it would be easy to just replace the caps, not the whole unit. But the style was different, so they wouldn't fit.

When I arrived at Camp Newmar I discovered from Jeannie that they manufacturer has changed style and the new caps do not fit on the old base.

Received tip from tech on replacing. Said to make sure the area around the vent is sealed with Dicor so nothing can get down below the roof area. Hear about a guy who over-filled his black tank with rinse water and it leaked into the ceiling area since the area around the pipe was not sealed. What a mess that would make.

Thanks for the tip Charlie welcome to the forum. They must have changed the finish products on newer coach's mine 7 years look as good as new.
In fact every thing has stood up pretty well only thing I had to replace was a HWH jack and electric steps that I messed up.

I second Dicor.. I did a bit of research and found out who makes those roofs.

Yup, Dicor.
