Ventana towing power

Everyone talks about MOAR POWAH and I'm as big a motorhead as anyone. 600hp and a million lb-ft of torque would be great. But after our last trip I am totally happy with the power of our Ventana. We left Atlanta headed for Kentucky, towing our newly-setup Crosstrek, and I was really curious about the climb to Monteagle. I've made that drive a bunch in a Corvette and really enjoyed slaloming around the slow-moving big rigs. I was wondering if I would become one of those moving chicanes.

Nope. It held 55-60mph all the way to the top, easy run up the hill. Now it was not in top gear the whole time, I'm not towing an Escalade, and we haven't made it out west yet, but after this little test I don't see any issues with it. I gots ENUFF POWAH. Yeah!

I too fretted if our VTDP had enough power when we bought it. And yes, I discovered as you did that it has plenty of umph.

We have pretty much the same coach, with the 360hp engine. It's no Corvette, but it moves along just fine. Accelerates onramps well, pulled up to Monteagle with really no slowdown. Very pleased.

Remember it is torque that gets you up the grade. At this time Cummins 360 HP is B series engine at 6.7 liters 380 HP is ISL with 8.9 and usually over 1000 torque. One should be interested in the 8.9 motor for power then the 6.7 which might be only 700 torque rating. Big difference in torque, most of time over 300 plus torque even though only 20 HP difference. Easier to up grade power like flashing computer with 8.9 ISL.

6.7 liter, 360HP, 800 LBS torque. Ventana uses the Allison 3000 transmission while the LE uses the Allison 2500. The 3000 gets you 10,000 LBS tow. On my VTDP my NCC is 6400 LBS. Even at full NCC I still have 10,000 tow capacity because of that Allison bad girl.

I have the 400 with 1245 lbs torque. She will really move on the interstate with my truck in tow. Use the cruise control to keep the speed in check. Very happy with this coach.

I am glad the 360HP with the 3000 allison works good in the mountains. I loved the LE3709, but I did not want the 340HP. So I switched to what the DW loved and ordered the LE4037 with the bigger engine.

Love the Crosstrek. It's a great small car but a real mountain goat that will go almost anywhere a Jeep will. We've had several subarus and have always had great luck with them, totally bulletproof. Light weight and easy to tow too. Just make sure you get the manual transmission because the autos are not towable. Like I said, the coach tows it like it's not there.

I have 2016 VT DP 4369 with 400HP and it pulls my CRV just fine.

We were looking at the DS because it had a 450HP but they were above out price point. No regrets with the VT.

Not all LE's had the 2500 series. The longest LE's came with 3000 series.
