Ventana vs Dutch Star

Doing some homework prior to the winter RV show season. We have been contemplating moving up to either a Ventana or Dutch Star and have a few questions I have not been able to answer via Newmar's website or their brochures.

All questions are regarding 4369 floorplans:

1. Is the generator in the Ventana on slides? Believe only 8K unit is available on Ventana. Can a 10K be done as a "special"? Planning to go all electric. Or is 8K big enough? We boondock a fair amount.

2. Does the Ventana have an EMS and auto gen start?

3. Can the heated floors be ordered on a Ventana?

4. Ventana "Build" site has an option for electric prep for the basement freezer w/o tray. Dutch Star has the option to add the 2.8 Cf freezer on a slide. Can this be ordered on the Ventana?

5. If both forward (standard) couches are folded out into beds, can you still walk between them?

6. Do the Driver and Pass seats have footrests?

I am aware of the side vs rear radiator and Freightliner vs Spartan chassis.

Thanks in advance.

No slide in Ventana. 10k is not an option even as a special in Ventana.
8kw should be fine unless at high altitude, and even then would be fine in most usage situations. Ems will manage power to prevent overload.

Yes, as a special. Cost is about 10% more than dsdp.

Ventana vs Dutch Star

As you may remember, we had. 2016 CS 3710 and went with a 2018 DS 4369...I agree with Red baron’s answers on the option availability. Either one your on the right track on the 4369 Floor Plan IMO. We love it. The DS advantages beside what you mentioned; 3 AC’s, no carpet More Floor, 150 gallons of fuel vs 100, availability of the Girard awning package plus other standard options.. good luck you can’t go wrong with either one.

RedBaron - does this topic qualify to go into your "Stirring the Pot" thread?

3 AC Units

We have a 2016 Ventana 4369 and were able to get 3 15,000 BTU AC units. That is still an option for 2019 models (according to the Newmar website).

The DS has a 450 HP engine and the Ventana has a 400 HP, but both have the same torque. We like having the extra basement storage compartment in the rear on our Ventana that is available because of the rear radiator.

There are many other differences between the two models, and it may just come down to price and what you can afford.

Our Ventana has the tile all the way back (except the small area along super slide) plus the 3rd a/c unit. The difference between a 450hp and 400hp with the same torque is probably not noticeable. We are pulling right at 10,000 pounds for our toad and I haven't noticed any problems pulling grades.

Even though we stay in warm climates all year there have been times when heated floors would have felt nice. We have heated seats on our car and use them 3 or 4 times a year. We are trying to struggle through life without this option and have made it so far.

Thanks for the replies, all were quite helpful. As we are closing in on retirement and at least part time RV living we plan to spend most of the cold part of the year in warmer climates. But, we do have family that lives in the north and will experience at least some cold weather. The wife loves how our Canyon Star vinyl plank floor is warm when we run the furnace. Can only imagine how nice actual heated floors are. After going thru the brochures, build site and input from here, it becomes pretty obvious that Newmar is careful to keep the lines separated. You cannot buy a Ventana and option it into a Dutch Star. Makes sense, really. It will come down to dollars and cents. In no hurry to get rid of my Canyon Star, for now, though.

I know you said you knew about Spartan vs Freightliner, but one note on DS vs Ventana on Spartan. Dutch Star has independent front suspension, but ventana spartan doesn't.

For us the real difference came down to two items: the heated floors and the HWH FWS. On the 4369 the price difference was $70K. The IFS IMHO is a personal preference as I think the Ventana front suspension is more comfortable. If I could comfortably afford the extra 70k would I, you bet. If you are stretching to buy a Dutch star then I would say no.

After picking up my new Dutch Star yesterday and driving it 400 miles I can tell you that there is a big difference in the way the DS drives compared to the Ventana. I had a 4037 Ventana with tag and drove it 18,000 miles. DW and I both noticed a big improvement. Hard to justify the $ difference but if you can swing it I recommend the DS. Bill
