Thanks for the clarification. Mine should be arriving Monday. I'll need to get it set up for auto pay. Then I can report back on speeds from the Seattle area. Over the next couple weeks we will be in Vegas, then California, so I can give into about how it performs in those areas as well. Next month we will be in Canada. I'm really curious to find out if it will work up there. Has anyone tried to use the hotspot on this prepaid plan in Canada?

Long story short: I ordered it incorrectly and the deal I thought I had was invalid. I’m back to paying $65 for a $70 unlimited plan. I’m still good with it though.

No Cost Limitations

I just went online again to our account and asked someone at Verizon Tech support (in a chat room) about "Prepaid Plan #28366" and they had no clue. However this time they documented our entire conversation and gave me the Prepaid Data Account number of 800-225-5499 so I can speak with someone who better understands this Data "throttling" issue. I think what a LOT of folks seem to be missing here is that sure, you can have unlimited Data but...not unlimited speeds with a Hot Spot (not a Phone!) after you use the 15GB. We shall see...and a BIG thanks to docj
Without trying to digest the 210 post and without cost limitations:

Can someone condense this thread to:

1. Equipment Needed
2. The Plan or Plans needed

To eliminate or reduce "Throttle Back"......

I now have,

1. Verizon MiFi 7730L @ 20gb (Commercial plan)
2. Verizon phone Hot Spot @ 72gb (Commercial plan)
3. ATT Phone Hot Spot @ Not Sure/maybe 15-20gb

I'm thinking of getting rid of the MiFi and reactivate an old verizon phone for the 72gb's

I know many of you may think this is over done but I still struggle with connection and speed everywhere.

Any Suggestions,

SLS

Pretty simple. Here is what I did (mentioning plan #28366). I also said it should be $70/month with $5 discount for auto pay. BTW, I did NOT have Verizon service before signing up for this:

I just did an online chat. Told them I wanted the 8800L on the truly unlimited plan prepaid. Asked a couple times during the process to make sure there was no capping and saved the transcript of the chat.

I paid around $290 (cost of device +1st month service+ tax). I should be receiving it tomorrow, so I will report back how it ends up.

Not to jump in at the last minute but let me tell you my experience as a Verizon unlimited grandfathered in user. I have been with VZ since 1992 my wife and I now retired so each spring/summer we RV in the lower 48 and Canada. To sum it up I dropped the unlimited grandfathered in plan because it wasn't worth it. Over the years i have definitely seen a progressing degrading of performance literally everywhere. Yes I have a strong signal but a very unreliable data stream, to the point that watching video is just about usless. Unlimited even without throttling means nothing. I now have our family on one of the current unlimited plans. Performance is just as bad but I am saving $150.00 per month.

Actually, it's rvmobileinternet.com (Chris and Cherie of Technomadia) that broke the story and have collected the data. A great site to join to keep on top of the latest. Their work is what was shared here.

So we were on the road this weekend for 1st time since getting the 8800L & prepaid unlimited hot spot plan. Here’s a screenshot showing speeds throughout weekend at different times & areas (They vary in location from Orlando to Tallahassee). The slowest speed was no surprise as it was right when FSU game ended & everyone was leaving the stadium, even our normal post pay phone data is super slow then. Overall still very happy with speeds so far. We even had around 8 devices hooked up at one time on Saturday night & speeds stayed up.

Can you get local stations over the air with a regular RV antenna?

That's why you can get the discount. Pre-paid does not allow discounts. I lost mine when I switched....it was an employer 15% discount. Even losing that, I came out ahead dollar wise though

Well, some bad news update in regard to the Prepaid unlimited plan FOR PHONES....not the Jetpack. This morning, when i tethered my tablet to my phone ( with the Prepaid unlimited service on it), I discovered the download speed had capped at about 600Kbs on the tethered device, my tablet. So Verizon has basically lied to me because in a Chat with a Verizon rep., online Thursday evening (before I switched) she assured me that the unlimited prepaid for phones would NOT be limited to the 600Kbs tethering speeds associated with the 3Gb and the 8Gb. There are some work-arounds to deal with it, but it pisses me off that they don't even know their own plans well enough to be able to give correct/accurate information.

Maybe, but then we'd have to buy an OTA DVR since we rarely watch programs in real time. All in all, the $40/mo discount I got the DirecTV retention desk to give me worked out as the best deal!

I don't even see personal hotspot on my iPhone X's settings any more so it appears it's not available on the prepaid side. I think I'll move my iPhone back to beyond unlimited as I may want to tether an iPad or laptop to it when not with my jetpack. Good info.

If true, eliminating the hotspot feature on the iPhone would be a classic bait and switch. Did not see that documented anywhere in the pre-paid plan description.

I have the iPhone XS Max. Side by side the iPhone XS Max in the hotspot mode is works just as well as the Verizon MiFi 8800. There is really no need for a MiFi with the latest version iPhone on the post paid plan.

Maybe it’s being ignored due to cost but it’s the only reliable way to get full Verizon LTE no matter what. I’m using a SIM from eBay (which is resold as part of a corporate plan) and it’s truly unlimited uncapped unthrottled unmanaged. I’m consistently using 500+ gig a month and consistently get 60 down 25 up. I stream at all times of the day (including a 3.5 mbit/s upload stream 8 hours a day) and I also use it for remote IT software engineering (my primary job) and it’s been flawless for over 2 months now. The downside is that it’s $170/mo but I NEED it to be reliable and always fast and it has been.
