I bought my first WM DEF about three weeks ago and have driven some 500 miles with it. No issues at all.

Be careful buying ANY DEF at Walmart! I have personally found DEF containers that have been refilled with water, the boxes re-taped and returned to the shelf.

If you must buy DEP at Walmart, insist at checkout that you be able to open the box and look for an intact seal under the cap. You will probably get some push-back from the cashier, but explain your concern and ask for a manager to be called. That has worked for me on the few occasions I've bought DEF at Walmart.

OK, now you have me thinking I need to open up and check the two I just got from Amazon, where the same game could take place.

At Walmart, I always open the cap at the shelf. If it's missing the seal I leave cap off and set it on floor.

So far I have purchased approx 50 boxes from Walmart and only left 3 on floor. All at the same location in Kalispell,MT.

I went and got the manager and brought them over to show what I found. She opened 4 more and found 2 without.

All showed evidence of leakage, and all missing the funnel. She was very thankful and gave me my 3 boxes free.

MANY coaches have the DEF fill on the "wrong" side making it difficult to use the pumps.

Ditto. I have never found a missing or damaged seal. Using them for years with never a problem. Just added two jugs worth yesterday.

I think this is much ado about nothing. It started with one Dodge Ram dealer who did not want to honor the factory warranty and tried to pin the blame for a truck's engine problems on Walmart. Bogus, in my opinion.

That is my take as well. I have burned so much DEF over the years from walmart, I cannot imagine that they have an across the board problem that isn't making national news, or at the very least, making it to each and every location that sells the product.

It is possible that a batch was tainted, etc. In that case, the particular store(s) affected would have a hold on the inventory. That doesn't mean that the entire supply is bad.

I, too, think that this is not a widespread problem. But, I can attest from personal experience that it does occur. And, whether a contaminated container of DEF is rarely or frequently found at Walmart (or anywhere else) doesn't matter; I don't want to be the one who that dumps 2.5 gallons of water in his DEF tank. As a result, I will continue to check for the seal under the cap before I finalize my purchase.

Just purchase a jug of Walmart DEF in Cedar Falls IA. Nothing said, rang up normally, and the shelf was full. I would assume that if there’s a recall on the DEF, or anything, it would have been pulled from the shelf, but as I stated the shelf was full.

Prior to purchase I always check the seal and all was good with this container.

Hi -The Walmart web site doesn't show it as a recall item (but then if it's on the internet it must be true). The last jug I bought had a new type cap that requires breaking the cap to remove it. That should keep the slimeballs at bay for a while.
