Steve - there was no way to do it with a smaller hole. I actually had to get my arm in far enough to get past the latch, then angle back with a screwdriver to reach in to release the latch. The release is under the plastic cover plate that's over the whole mechanism, and is also blocked by the back part of the latch bar (which is actually a rectangular loop).

Great job Joe--

A good drill can solve a lot of problems. Thanks for the great picture of the cable apparatus.

Locktite is good but you also can install a second set screw locking the first one in-- They can't loosen up then. This technique is common on motor pulley set screws-- to secure them on to "key way" shafts.

Hmm. Never thought of that. I think I'd have to find two shorter set screws, as I don't think there was room for another one behind the one I put back in. That would be tricky.

Hey Joe,

Here's a few ideas on getting the set screws--

You first have to know if they are SAE or Metric--

1- Call Newmar tech support and get the size, or

2- Take one to Lowes, go to the speciality fasteners area, and there you will find a thread gauge size chart-- actually a "physically, screw in the set screw" deal that will give you the size-- TIP-- write it down .

If they are metric buy a metric "Allen Wrench" tool while you are there.

They probably won't have the set screws in the size and length you want but this is where you go to solve that problem---

https://travers.com/Default.asp go to pages 1195- 1197 in the master catalog.
(Click on "browse master catalog" on top of page, then
Click on search for key word, etc.
Then in the small white box, type in pg 1195--go.)

You can buy a box of 100 for about $7 bucks (in SS more money) and outfit all you friends with a quick fix for this problem.

I buy all my tooling supplies for my small home machine shop from these folks. They are great, and I usually have my parts in 1-2 days with standard shipping. Sure beats driving around all day looking for tooling and hardware. Let it come to your front door .

Good luck,
