We have started getting some alage growth on the water pump so we decided to sanitize the system last night. Newmar told us that we needed 7 gallons of bleach for our water tank but we are now thinking that was way too much. We have run at least 4 full tanks of water through the system and there is still bleach sell and residue in the water. Any ideas on how to get the water back to liveable conditions?

On RV Roadtrips, they sanitized the fresh tank by adding 2 or 3 cups of bleach.

Then again...

The recommended proceedure to sterilize is to add 2 ounces of bleach for every 15 gallons of capacity in your holding tanks. So, for example, if you have a 100 gallon tank you would add 12 and 2/3 oz of bleach. Then let it sit for a minimum of 5-6 hours and rinse, rinse rinse. Please note that the bleach is diluted in water before adding it to your tanks because it is extremely corrosive in nature.
You should continue to flush and then you can add some baking soda in the last few rinses in order to help remove the last of the smell.

I hope you didn't let all that bleach sit very long before you rinsed!

You could try a de-chlorinator which you would get at a pet store that sells salt water fish. This is how I get rid of the bleach residue after cleaning the coral from our salt water fish tanks.

Hope this helps,
Chris

7 gallons of a mixed solution of 2oz bleach to one gallon of water sounds just right for a 105 gallon holding tank.

Too bad that is not what Joe told us.... I pumped the bleach in and immediately started fluching the system so it did not sit for long. I performed three full cycles of the tank before we went to bed and another this morning.

You have gotta love misinformation.
