G'morning from South Dakota:

Say...does anybody have any suggestions as to what might be causing our rigs water pump, located in a vertical orientation on the aft wall of our water bay, to intermittently drip water down into the bay ?

For example, I might be outside draining the black and or grey tanks and my wife might run water inside the rig using the pump rather than the straight hose bib pressure. When the pump starts I'll notice all at once that water is dripping down either right from the pump, or... from somewhere just above it....can't tell yet. Crazy thing is, this only happens occasionally and I can't seem to duplicate this drip at will.

Any ideas???

Thanks.

Steve & Lynette

Get your wifes hand held mirror if she has one and take a flashlight and look up at the pump. Could have a pump seal going bad.

Are you sure it is from the pump. We had a leak at the shower head fitting. Water would only leak when someone took a shower. That was fun to find and fix. Water would leak down inside the water compartment. It is pretty easy to remove the water compartment cover just a lot of screws. That might give you a better view. Most of the connection are either screw together or a crimp fitting.

Some of your fittings may have loosened up from road vibration and need to be tighten up.
Use the mirror suggested and check for tightness should have tabs on nut for finger tighting.

I've been frustrated by water leaks and find it hard to discover where the leak starts and what is where water has migrated to from somewhere else. Is there a trick? Thinking along the same line as using soapy water to find an air or gas leak -- could you spray the dry pump and surrounding water lines with aerosol cooking spray and then blow on some baby powder? The powder should stick to the cooking spray, flour does. This might help see what actually leaks?

Is it a 5700 Shurflow?

My was leaking where the pump and seal are joined . It was two years old. Shurflow didn't want me to fool around with it. They sent me a new one.

I did try to tighten the screws- they were super tight.

Hi Chickadee,
The leak is only when the pump is in use. For me, this says the leak is on the pressure side (output side) of the pump. I'd bet on the previous posts mentioning to tighten fittings, both on the pump and the hose connections.

Based on the OP, the leak is to a fitting unique to the pressure side of the pump, between the pump and where it joins the coach water system.

I had the same problem with it leaking when the pump ran and didn't leak when the pump was off. I tried tightening the screws and they were already tight. I asked a friend, who is a RV tech, to take a look because he has replaced dozens of them. He told me the only fix was to replace the pump and he is seeing more and more of these failures.

Do NOT waste your money on Shur-Flo. They are a piece of junk. Haven't had one, won't buy one and it seems that every RV water pump problem I read about has been a Shur-Flo pump.

If you have to replace your pump, spend a few more bucks and get an RV Aqua-Jet. Mine has lasted over 10 years now and is still going strong with a super high water flow and awesome water pressure.

Only my opinion.

Chickadee, (Steve)

Is your's a Shurflow?

They didn't even want mine back. They told me to trash it. I did have to peel the label (Data tag) off and send it to them.

Mine only leaked when it ran. The water was coming out between the motor and the pump. My water input (and output) "O ring" seals were high and dry.

SORRY for the late "come-back", but haven't had the time yet to dig into this leaking pump thing. Pulled into widowed sister-in-laws rural home here in Milltown, So. Dakota a week ago, and have been on yardwork, equipment and handyman repair detail ever since . (Reminds me of that big advantage of not owning a home any longer).

THANKS for all the input regarding this pump though. Will get to it shortly, and WILL BE BACK TO YOU ALL. Thanks again.
