Quick question, we are still learning our new to us 2007 allstar 3950.

I think the fresh water tank gauge is out of calibration, it only seems to take 20 or 30 gallons to show full, but that is just a guess.

So my question is, is there an external way to tell the tank is full?

Thanks for the help

That's absolutely of no surprise. Typically, these gauges are not known for their spot on accuracy. I will fill my tank until the water comes out of the overflow. Now that's full.

Can you see the tank? I can on my Baystar so I confirm the readings with what I see. I also noticed that the sensors are taped on outside the tank. I would check to see if they are properly spaced or have fallen off. Even so I think these things only give you a guestimate and not a fully accurate reading.

The tank is behind the outside TV so it would not be easy to get a visual.

I was thinking of doing that but was not sure if newmar's design would allow for it without damaging the tank.

On ours there are small holes under each switch, these are "pots" to adjust the level. They are small and take a jewelers screwdriver. I filled the tank and then set the "full" light to come on fully at that point.
But ours is a 2002 and they may have changed the whole setup by now!!

Be careful in thinking tank sensors are taped on, some are spun on and penetrate the tank, others are put on with epoxy and they too penetrate the tank. If you go picking at them you might find yourself in a soggy shoes.

Follow Mr_D's suggestion, see if you have calibration pots behind the tank level indicator control panel.

I can see my tank through a cut out in the water bay...behind the valve for tank drain. I have place tape on the container for full. I can't fill until it hits the overflow as it then siphons most ofthe water from the tank.

No problem with overflowing-have done it hundreds of times. You can see your tank from the drivers side of the coach(thru the water bay)-use a flashlight to see the level.

The probes and sensors in the tank sometimes don't get cleaned off ,the black tank and grey tank what we do to help sensors read right here is what you do , take and make sure the tanks are completely empty no toilet chemical in tanks shut the gate valves and get three cups of bleach and dump into black tank via toilet and fill black tank with water till full , do same to the grey tank dump three cups of bleach in the drain in kitchen and fill tank full of water do same with fresh fill threw portable inlet. Run let it sit for about 1/2 hour then make trailer or motor home move either around block then dump all tanks , after empty fill all tanks with fresh water and then drain again and then leave all gate valves open for one 1-2 hours bleach is a drying agent and will make sensors work better.
