We did it 2005 DSDP 4009

We found our dream coach and now have to get a pre purchase inspection are there any things that we should pay particular attention to the coach is a 2005 Dutch Star model 4009 370 Cummings with Spartan chassis (46000 miles) on test drive the front end seemed to bounce quite a bit but the coach has sat for a month and the road was not smooth it did smooth out after 30 miles but did not totally go away any suggestions what to look for all comments good and bad appreciated

If it has a 12000# independent front suspension examine the rubber ball joint seals to make sure they are not cracked.(on a Spartan Chassis) It is expensive to replace them. It may need shocks on front axle replaced

Hi Medic318,
Congrats on you finding the coach of your dreams. 05 was when Newmar was making 15 coaches a day. The entire industry was straining to keep up with sales. Make sure the inspector verifies every appliance and component works. The roof seams should be looked at very carefully. Examine the ceiling inside for water stains. Look at the ceiling in the closets and cupboards. Look at the paint at about 45 degrees. Some coaches have "paint checking" You'll need to look closely. It will look like spider web cracks. They are very light to start, but once started, the only cure is to replace the sidewalls of the coach. The rough front end may be due to tires or shocks. Koni shocks and Centramatic dynamic wheel balancers made my front end very smooth.

Welcome to the forum Medic318.
Congrats on your Newmar many safe miles for you.
Here is a Brochure and Owners Guide will give weights and tank sizes plus functions of your coach.
If your coach has not yet been loaded with your stuff the front end may change when weight is added.
Have the coach weight and adjust your tire pressures to Michelin tires and may find a different ride if not than add the good shocks plus check other suggestions.
Welcome to family and enjoy.

Congrats on you find. We purchased a 2004 DSDP 4009 in 2007 & have never regretted it for one minute.

The only problem we found was with the water connections as we have a kitchen slide.
Once I replaced all the plastic piping with armoured hoses we eliminated all the leaks.

Other than regular maintenance items, a new set of tires & new batteries (mostly for our own piece of mind) it have been a pleasure to own.

If you have any questions do not hesitate to pm us.

Congrats!! I just traded an 05 DSDP for an 08 MADP. The DS was a great coach. Check the tire pressure you may just have too much pressure, that will make the steering feel like it's wondering at highway speeds. Make sure the refrigerator has had the recall done. If you've got the time look in the last bay on the passenger side that's where the batteries are and all your filters you might want to check them.
