I've been doing some research on the new 2010 engines and the weight controversy and have posted on my blog. Newmar is running out of the old engines for Essex.
Here's a link for the blog. Lee

Very helpful. Thanks, Lee.
The brand comparison was most enlightening.

Looks as though the used or new 2008's to 2010 left over market is going to be good for people in the know, the weight issue is going to make a mess for some unknowing people.
Have a great and safe trip to N.E. Lee and thanks for this info.

Continuing down his blog was the best SHORT explaination about hydronic heating.
Still hate that diesel smell it puts out. I know, when it smells, its out of adjustment, etc.
What about the propane model? does it stink? How much propane is used per hour?
How big are the "normal" propane tanks when equipped this type heat?
I googled and got some unsatisfactory answers. Need actual users response.
Kerrry.....not hijacking, honest.

A 50,000 BTU propane burner will use a little over a half a gallon of propane/Hr

I have heard that Cummins is discontinueing the ISM engine and replacing it with a detuned ISX. Don't know how that will affect the K2 chassis.

The ISM was one of Cummins' 2007 EPA petitioned engines (it is emission-wise a non 2007 EPA conforming) engine. It didn't meet the 2007 and naturally could never even hope to be made to meet the 2010 EPA code. So yes, it - the ISM - is gone. For good. I suspect a detuned ISX makes sense but I do not know its official replacement.
For historical perspective - in 2007 the EPA allowed engine makers to meet a sort of CAFE style approach to emissions - (using a corporate average emission standard to meet the 2007 requirements). IF a manufacturer had really clean burners they could petition the EPA to allow the dirty ones to still be made as long as the average was in line with EPA regulations. The venerable ISM was/is a dirty one that got petitioned and approved for continued production. The ISM was a valuable part of the Cummins family and they did not have an EPA emission qualified replacement for it back in 2007. So Cummins filed the EPA petition and got continued production approval.
That is why the ISM never had a DPF and never needed ULSD and still doesn't!

Brand M used 23K rear axles frequently in the past.

It will actually be a "Baby" ISX. In stead of 15 liters it will be 11 and will fit in the K2.
Thanks, Daryl
