What is this gauge?

I recently discovered a gauge that appears to be for the Diesel Tank. But the location of the gauge has left me asking why there. I opened the first basement door on Passenger side and discovered a round black disk that once unscrewed revels this gauge. Why put a gauge there and why would you need another diesel gauge?
