What is this part for on a slide topper?
The black handle “thing”? It was hitting on a stop bracket on the coach preventing the topper from completely rolling up. I repositioned it and all is good, but I have no idea if it’s purpose with slide locks?

It is an antibillow system. It should be adjusted so that with the slide in, if the topper tries to unroll in a wind gust, the arm hits the stop mounted on the MH wall so the topper doesn't get a chance to turn into a sail and selfdestruct. However, as the slide moves out (and the topper unwinds) the arm should miss the stop. Generally if the arm is roughly vertical when the slide is fully in, it should be fairly close to correct

Thanks Tony! So over time do they need adjustment? The one we adjusted looks like it has been hitting for some time because the rubber coating was coming off. It simply was not clearing the gutter nor stop.

Should be mounted permanently, in one spot.........google the anti-billowing stop for your awning brand, and I believe you'll learn more about it........could also install one on the other end.....and, the wall contact can be somewhat adjusted...

What would make the stop change position and “not clear” the gutter? After I changed the position, the topper is nice and tight again with no issues.

Often times the installation of a new topper will cause the device to end up in a different spot.

''
when we put new toppers on we needed to reposition the stopper and drill a new hole for the set screw.
