I am new to my 1999 DSDP. Next may I am goikng to take a one year trip to Alaska the west coast and into the SW. What spares should I plan on bringing. Come on, many of you guys have your packing lists (even if it goes beyond spares) just send me a copy of it. this is a learning experience for me, especially as a first time diesel pilot. I will have road care service. I am realizing that even though the DSDP has a big belly, it has no where as much storage as my former winnie superchief.

One problem with your recommendation, the Canadians do not like you to carry a lot of that into their country even if you say that it is going to go out the other side into alaska.

But hopefully the liquor stores will be open when we get there.

I would suggest bringing things which you think you cannot purchase(easily)on the way: such as, prescriptions, cell phone charger, extra water filters, fan belt(s)/hoses, a few cans of tire sealant, touch-up paint, extra eyeglasses, and extra of your favorite cleaner/soap/detergent/ antibiotic. Also,if your toad is so equipped, update(or re-new)any cell phone service (onstar) as sometimes the car has a greater range than your cell. Of course, extra keys (in seperate location, like car glove box), any vet certificates for animals, copy of passport/ driver's license, credit cards, voter registration (kept seperatly), and try to laminate any paper cards (medicare) in case you go in the drink. Most else you can buy/replace.

Shirlock1 we have made that the trip to Alaska twice and spent all summer both trips (summer 06 and 07). There is nothing you cannot get in AK. it might take a few days to get it to you, but you can get it. We do not care a spare tire, but I do care fuses, spare light blubs, and such. If you have any questions please e mail me.

For me, the bottom line is to carry spares (within reason) for what will stop you dead in your tracks. As others have posted, filters, belts, fuses, etc. I do carry a fully mounted spare tire.

Have all maintenance up to date, before starting the trip.

We did a 10 month trip last year to Mexico and Alaska without any real spare parts for the coach(it was brand new). We did take a complete set of tools and a good assortment of bolts/nuts/screws/fuses/velcro/etc.-which definitely came in handy. About the only thing I wish we would have taken were more fishing rods.
