What to do at Factory pick-up & can you ask of add-0ns?

Will be ordering a 2021 Bay Star in April of 2021 with the pick-up being in August 2020 from what I am told. I know it is early to ask but was wondering what to expect procedure and time wise, is the pick-up still at the old facility and was wondering if you can have Newmar “add things” to your coach while you are there for the 5 days? Thanks in advance for your experiences, input and any suggestions

I guess it depends what you mean by add things. If you mean like an option you didn’t get, say a dishwasher, I think that’s probably out for FPU, but I bet they’ll certainly schedule you a service appointment and charge you factory rates for whatever you’d like done.

Alternatively, if you mean aftermarket stuff, it also depends. When I was satisfied with my
Coach and had time remaining, I had them help me install my TPMS antenna, but that was easy stuff.

What might you want them to “add”?

In the end, I guess I’d say just ask, the worst they can say is no.

Things might have changed or may change since I did my factory pickup, but I did have them do a few items.
1) Added external switch to open driver's side window.
2) Added three shelves in the bays on passenger side.

3) Added a second rod in the rear closet to give us more hanging room.
4) Changed out the original transfer switch that did not have protection to the Essex transfer switch which did.

I’m wondering the same thing...I’d like them to install this when I pick mine up mid February...

The external switch to open the driver’s window is a great idea...didn’t think to ask for that as a special...

Things like these should be included with your order. Then it will be ready for you. We had over 100 such deletions, additions and changes - some little; some big. I don't know if they'll do that extensive of things now but they did then.... just about anything you wanted.

Thumbs up

A list you say... well I have one of those for some after-market things like:

1. LED headlight assembly so you can see unless the 2021’a will have that issue fixed by then;

2. Have them crack the gen set oil drain plug heard its a bear to loosen the first time

3. Have them put whatever they put on outside kitchen exhaust fan to make it quieter while driving

4. CB, antenna and Dash cam;

5. Gutter extensions

6. ME-ARC above door, wiring for BMK and AGS with sense wire next to battery-bay;

7. Solar combiner box on the roof attached to solar pre-wire

8. Shower faucet change

9. Add a gravity fill for fresh water tank

10. Cell booster antenna on roof

11. Fan vent covers on roof

12. Ask to have cut three pieces of the Blue Dow insulating Styrofoam used in the walls or ceiling to same dimensions of the 2 roof vents and 1 shower sky-light.

13. Soft Starts on both A/Cs

14. Metal valve stems on all tires

15. TMS system

16. Window awnings

Would rather have Newmar employees do all the work as they are the real pros who built the coach. Absent an unforeseen emergency no one but the factory (and me) will ever work the coach in and out of warranty

So am I leaving anything out for the "add-ons"?

Any further experiences, suggestions or comments regarding the rest of the FPU process would still be appreciated

"What is # 6, first part?"

It is the brain-monitor system for Magnum products such as the solar controller, battery monitor kit, inverter/charger, Automatic gen start (AGS), state of charge (SOC) of the batteries with many other important readings and functions some of which are subject to beings programed.

I could be wrong but think some of these would need to be specials, particularly items 6-9.

Newmar’s first priority is likely going to be fixing anything you find wrong with the coach from production. After that, if there’s time left I think they would be willing g do much of the other stuff.

Nope...been there done that Newmar will not give the ME-ARC like in higher end coaches and will only do the pre-wire as an option. My understanding is at the FPU or if in for service they will do whatever because it is after the sale If I am wrong on this please advise

Our pickup was at the new Service Center. I think that’s where they all are because they have the pull thru sites reserved for CPU customers.

As for whether CPU counts as after the sale or not, idk. I just know they didn’t really have an issue doing anything I asked, but only after all the warranty issues were resolved.
