I have a new (to me) 2007 Mountain Aire, model 4121 on a Spartan chassis. This is my first experience with a tag axel. Can someone explain to me how the dump system works on my particular coach and when you would dump the air...what driving situation.

Hi LABergo - this was a question I too had when the coach was new. First how it works, you press & hold the tag axle dump switch on the left console (arm rest area). If you have the drivers window open you can hear the air dump from the tag.

Now, why do you dump the tag? When you are maneuvering at a slow speed, the tag will drag through a turn, and scrub off rubber. Taking the pressure off the tag wheels thru the turn helps this to not happen. Also, last year I had trouble leaving the campground due to spongy turf and the drive wheel spinning. The campground owner had me dump the tag & put all the weight on the drive wheels. Out we went.

BTW - the tag air dump only will work at or below speeds of 5 mph (may be even lower, I just know it is low).

Hope this helps.

Mark

I have a 2008 Dutch Star 4320 with a tag.I have never used it.So when you dump the air from the tag, does it automatically air up,as you go,or do you have to stop while it fills with air. I am assuming there are no buttons to press, only when you dump the air?

Hi Bruexx,
When the Tag Dump button is released and the coach is in drive (not reverse) the tag air system will again be pressurized. On some models, the tag automatically dumps when the coach is put into reverse gear.

You can check with spartan about the specifics of you coach concerning when your air dump operates. I think the ECM can be programmed to activate in reverse if you want. Some cocaches dump in reverse others do not. Basically as long as you are under 5 mph and you have the dump switch pushed it will dump the tag air, as soon as you let off the switch or exceed 5 mph the coach will start filling the tag axle air bags. It will take 10-15 seconds for the air to dump from the tag bags. It WILL NOT lift the tag axle off the ground like other brands do.
