So where is the 110K of difference between the Essex and London Aire in 2020 MSRP numbers?

Having not looked at the real details I realize maybe the Essex could come with things that you have to option in on for the LADP if it's like going from VTDP 40 to 43's, but doubtful.

Is it just the name? Is there something more significant on the interior that's of that value?

Can a LADP be optioned into essentially an EXDP?

One thing different to me is the Essex has always been the contemporary vs. the LA the traditional look. But you could probably option that carefully for the look you want.

For those that bought an Essex over a LADP, what made you decide to do this? I realize many do go LADP due to this price gap but some do go Essex and I'm curious what the differences are?

When we were looking at new coaches, Neal, we looked at Essex, London Aire and Mountain Aire. The primary differences we found between the Essex and London Aire were option levels and "bling." And, we found that Newmar was unwilling to "special" many of the Essex/London Aire options into the Mountain Aire.

As an example, we tried to option the two-memory driver seat from the LA to the MA, but Engineering denied it. They said it would require too much custom wiring (really???) but I think it was just maintaining model separation.

I think you have correctly identified the major difference in styling; contemporary vs traditional. I wish I had seen your question a couple days ago as I would have asked the 2020 Essex owner parked next to us why he chose it. He left yesterday.

I'm guessing that it is a decision you probably won't have to face in 2027 as I think their will be a reduction in models under WGO. My guess is that either the King Aire or Essex will be discontinued, as will either the London Aire or Mountain Aire. I'm thinking that WGO will focus on mid-priced and below. That may also threaten the New Aire's survival. We'll see.

We have owned a London Aire and then a Essex and again a 18 LA. The 18 LA to us was the real value in Newmar line up. First level of the new X-15 605 which has the be the best engine for large coaches with power and fuel economy around 7 MPG. There are some difference we had on the Essex which we didn't get on the LA but for the price difference but it wasn't worth the difference. The K3 Spartan chassis is the same as the King Aire except for 200 gallon fuel tank. From the way we look at it our LA it has less optioned then a King Aire at the 950K price point. I think Neal would be very pleased with the extra 100K in his pocket and have a 2020 London Aire. By 2027 the price of the LA should be hitting the 900K price range. Really love our London Aire and after doing our home work on which coach to purchased the London Aire was our choice.

My observations are that, not only do the options verses standard items change, but the quality of the components change.

For example, in our Mountain Aire, which we selected solely because we could get a 40 foot coach (and I really, really miss the X15), the quality of the driver's seat, passenger seat, and all other soft furniture really sucks. Either I or Newmar will be changing all of them.

Newmar differentiates their luxury coaches by down grading some items, for example the chassis, buying lower quality components for the lower priced coaches, and offering less options.

If you examine the differences between the Newmar luxury coaches and the Entegra Cornerstone (I owned one), Entegra packs all of the most important high quality components into the Cornerstone, prices it to be comparable to the London Aire, and avoids the less generally needed extra items and bling items. They also keep their costs down by offering very few options and no customization. Thus they have been redefining the luxury coach market, with great success by giving their customers the most important features like, King Aire level chassis, driver's and passenger's seats.

So, if I stick with Newmar, and particularly if they offer an X15 40 foot coach, I would select the London Aire as the best value luxury coach available from Newmar.

But, other will disagree. We don't live in the motor home, we tour the country. We have a very high end house and feel no need to drive around in an ultra-fancy motor home. But, I am factual, technically inclined, and what I drive better be functional and work properly.

Something I've spotted looking at pics is the water manifold that looks like it can shutoff water hot or cold feeds to any location, it is in the wet bay. I wonder how many other little things like this are different that are not mentioned in the brochures.

This is true. I spoke with a gentlemen while I was at Newmar who owned one and asked the very same questions.

Apparently the myrozie app has a lot more features enabled in the Essex (not sure which ones), something about the exterior camera system recording constantly and sending stuff to your phone, etc.

I don’t know that this stuff adds up to nearly 110k, but there are differences for sure..

My New Aire will do what you are talking about as it will send me pictures all around the coach at any interval that I choose from one minute up. I can also control the door locks, generator,ACs and more.

I was in Charlotte last year for Spartan Academy session. The 2018’s were shipping and it was the first year for the return of a 40 foot Mountain Aire with the 4047 floor plan.

My wife and I have owned longer coaches, but we like staying at 40 feet if we can. But like many others, I covet that X15 engine and would like to have one some day. So I asked the Spartan folks if we would ever see an X15 in a forty. They said, “No way, it wouldn’t fit”.

I got to believe they could make it fit, but I suppose they meant you would lose too much basement.

It can be done. Monaco did this is 2008-9. 40 foot Executive. One step below the Signature. I almost bought one. The X15 is taller than the x12 and a little bit longer, but not a big deal. And Monaco did this with the fuel tank in the middle, rather than tucked up close to the front axle.

Would probably have to abandon the 1-1/2 bath floor plan to move weight out of the rear. But, that is OK. A 1-1/2 bath floor plan wastes too much of the limited interior space in a 40 ft coach, so I don't see that as a big deal. It could still have a full wall slide. Place the vanity, washer/dryer and bed on that slide.
