Which Refrigerator Should I Go With?

On my last post about Newmar replacing my Dometic NDA1402 with a Norcold 1710, I was wrong about the Norcold model number they want to use.

I got a call today giving me a choice of which reefer they will replace mine with. I know nothing about either one and was hoping for some input from people that have them, in a two side vent (no top vent) install. Please chime in with good or bad experiences with either refrigerator.

They will install either a Norcold Ultraline 1210 or a Dometic RM1350 Elite, it's my choice. Both are a virtual perfect fit for the existing hole.

I need to call Carl back ASAP so any input is appreciated.

Thanks

I've had 2 Norcolds and 1 Dometic. Both Norcolds cooled better than the Dometic when under hot ambient temperatures. Both companies refers were reliable. In the end it is probably a toss-up between the two since there are numerous variables that affect performance. One that I've seen pop up here is the installation location. It seems that frig's installed in slideouts have had a harder time cooling probably due to somewhat less efficient venting. Good luck with your choice.

Regardless of which, you will want them to install a fan for positive ventilation of the 2-sidewall-vent setup. There isn't enough convection w/out the top vent for really hot days to get adequate circulation across the cooling unit. If they won't do this as part of the install, you will want to add it yourself soon.

My Norcold works well. I had 1 issue where the door alarm would not shut off. A circuit board was replaced under warranty to fix it.

I ended up going with the Norcold, and finally my refrigerator works properly!!!!!! Unfortunately it is noticeably thinner front to back, a 2 liter bottle no longer fits horizontally.

Mine does have fans, I can hear them running when it gets hot enough behind the refrigerator for them to come on.

Sal, you should have two fans that will cycle on and off and will be steady on if hot day. Also your top vent in slide should have a baffle to direct the heat outside of vent that the fans will push out. If you do not have these your box tempertures will rise but freezer will be ok, normal.
Look at fig's 12 & 13 in this link for baffle installation for side vent configuration.
