Why it's a game changer for us
We used to be boaters and the old saying goes "boating is like a hole in the water you throw money in" or "the best days of boating is the day you buy it and then the day you sell it". (But we did love boating)
However, it doesn't seem to be the case with people and their motorhomes.
So with much research, going to RV shows, talking to people and reading posts on this forum, we just ordered our very first motorhome, a Dutch Star 4036.
Wife and I still can't believe we did it. It's a time in our lives that cancer has forced us to reevaluate our priorities. Kids are independent, well sort of, house paid off and Mom is doing OK. I can't go back to my previous career and we always loved to travel. Staying in hotels and eating out at resturants all the time became a hardship due to the changes in our diet. So seeing our country and meeting like-minded people via RV seemed like the best idea.
We're excited and nervous at the same time. We have some RV experience from renting when the kids were little, but now it takes on a whole new meaning.
It's not a vacation anymore for us.
We are looking forward to this becoming our lifestyle.

There's no way you're not gonna love this..........
It takes a little time to get "the hang" of your systems, b ut after that it's smooth "sailing"

Happy Trails to you. Keep us informed of your travels and review as many camp grounds as you can. Dutchstars are great units. You did not skimp on anything.

Doug and Patty - I owned a 45' Herreshoff Cat Ketch sailboat in the 1990's. Switched to motorhomes. There are times when I miss sailing, but there are just so many more places to go with a motorhome. And motorhomes are far more reliable.
When we owned the boat we lived a block from the harbor. Since moving back to California would could not afford to live close to the water. I suppose if we ever lived close to the water again a small sailboat might be nice. Maybe 28'.

There is no doubt that owning a motorhome is not cheap...they are definitely expensive. For us as fulltimers, however, we find that the expense is not any more than we were paying for our home. That said, I'll bet that the only reason you'll feel good about selling your motorhome is when a change in lifestyle happens and you can't live in it any more. It's a GREAT lifestyle.
Dutchstars are great motorhomes, and you'll be very happy, I'm sure!!

Congratulations! We made the same decision a year ago and still very happy with it. We had the same excited and simultaneously terrified feeling, really let me know I was living!
