Why no slide topper on kitchen slide?

We have an '07 KSDP 3910 Just wondering why Newmar doesn't put a slide topper on the large kitchen slide.

I know the awning is over it and can be used to "shield" the slide, but sometimes a big wind will pick up and the awning will retract or if it's raining...well from what I've read, we're not suppost to use the awning as a rain protector...can collect too much, sag and cause problems.

I've heard to be careful of pine needles getting on the top of the slide...can cause damage...just would be really nice if there was a slide topper so I wouldn't have to worry about it...and could use my awning how it is really meant to be used.

Is this just a cost cutting thing?...is there an interference issue with the awning?...or is there another reason that I'm not aware of????

It's a clearance issue. If you have a A& E Weather-Pro you can put the awning out just far enough to cover the slide and disable the wind sensor without much risk.

I agree with Daryl. My coach is an 05, the same model as yours. I have always put the awning out just enought to cover the slide + about 1 foot for overlap. I leave the auto retract on. For me, there is not enough awning out to be a problem in rain or wind. In a heavy rain the water does not have enough awning to accumulate.

Putting out the awning, also keeps the sun from heating up the overhead storage compartments.

Remember, when breaking camp, close the slide first, then the awning.

Paul,
The awning collects "stuff" while doing its' job of protecting the slide. Closing the slide first alows it to retract with a clean top. If the awning is retracted first, all the "stuff" falls onto the top of the slide.

Many coaches are putting the awning on the slide(topper over slide). Would prefer if having a passenger side slide(assuming it is a long slide).
