Why does Newmar not put a slideout topper awning type cover on the passenger side slideout? I asked the dealer and they really didn't know. They told me it couldn't be done with the patio awning on the same side. But since then I have seen several coaches by others with both awnings on this side of different configurations. Seems to me that if you need them on the other slideout that you need it on the passenger side also. One new coach we looked at had water spots on the floor where the wet slide had been brought in.

Don't know if you have a MH or 5er. I have a 5er with the door (passenger) side slideout and there is not enough room between the slideout, door and patio awning arms for the Slide Topper brackets.

I have a 5th wheel with slideout toppers on all 3 slides. Newmar said that it could not be done, but the dealer did it without problems. I have a .5 in clearance between the curb slide and the patio awning arms. No big deal to me. It works good.

Most of us that own a coach will wipe side of slide when it comes in so no water spots will be left on floor. The slide seal will wipe most water off but around windows its hard for it to remove the water.
I dought if dealers would care to wipe it down its not going to be theres anyhow once its sold. Even with the slide topper rain water will collect on side walls if they are waxed.

You are right. I could have been more specific. We are not able financially to look at the Essex (well maybe just look) so I can't say about them. We have looked at 04/05/06 DSDPs and KSDPs with three or so slides - one on the passenger living space side. We have a 2 slide gas Newmar now and have been looking at some DPs and this absence of the passenger slideout topper seems quite typical for these Newmars - at least the ones we have seen.

Are you talking about the kitchen slide Newmar just figures you would put out your main AWNING when you are parked.
The three Newmars I have owned the slides never leaked, because of the way the slide seals are compressed when open or closed.

Are we still talking about a kitchen slide if the slide is out you would have your main AWNING out to cover the slide.

Why? It's often too windy for me to leave or even put the main awning out. Also that would be just one more thing to hassle with especially if you just stopped for a nite, especially in the rain.

Tiffin has always had slide toppers on triple and quad slides. It was tricky to get the main awning to clear and had to be fairly flat when extended. If there was too much slant, the awning fabric would rub on the slide topper roller hardware and the awning fabric could fray on the sharp edges of the hardware. That may be why Newmar doesn't do it on certain models.
However, the 2007 Allegro Bus now has fully enclosed slide toppers so you never see the rollers or material. Pics of this are available at This Link if interested. Now the awning material would only rest on a smooth rounded enclosure with no sharp edges. Looks "way cooler" too. Seeing as how Newmar will customize things for you, I'd be sure to ask for these if you order a Newmar coach. By the way, the ones in the pictures are A&E but they will be chaging over to Carefree sometime this year.
