Wind

last night, here in Las Vegas at the RV park, it was my first windy experience overnight in the coach. I woke up several times to a loud noise that sounded like the slide out toppers were being ripped off and blown away. I thought for certain we would wake up and the toppers would be gone.

As it turned out, in the morning, they are still there. Which brings me to my questions.

Is it normal for the loud noises at night as the winds blow through the toppers ?

At what approximate Wind MPH would you close your open face Sat Dish and bring down your antenna ? I thought for certain they were going to be ripped off the roof.

Having lived in Las Vegas for 10 years, I know last night was relatively mild as to how bad the winds can get here.

I am curious how other experience wind while sitting.

When the slide topper gets ruffling too loud for me to sleep is when I bring in the full wall slide. Just don't forget when you pop out of bed in the morning or you could be in for a surprise (don't ask).

There's no set wind speed to secure the rig.

I've brought the slides in a couple of times and stowed the sat dishes more than I've brought the slides in.

My policy was, if I was concerned, I'd secure the rig.

I'd rather bring them in and not worry so maybe I would bring them in sooner than others.

The ones outside at 2 am pulling things in or the ones cleaning up torn material in the morning. Those folks.

For sat.. I have a dome so can not advise

For awnings, 10MPH sounds good, my A&E is supposed to self retract at 15, But I Well....... long story there.

For slide toppers... I have slept in 100 mph gusts with no problem.

If the noise bugs me I put them in. more to do with direction then speed.

Our sat. I don't put down unless I know the winds will be over 70.

Tying the toppers down like that will cause premature wear and eventually a rip right there where the rope or bungy cord you used is running across on either side. Constant motion of the topper against that narrow rope/bungy will act like a saw over time even in light winds.

If it's going to be several windy days I put a inflatable rubber ball under the topper, it keeps it tight.

I think it's a matter of preference. Tieing down the topper and risk the premature rips versus no tie down and hearing what sounds like the roof being ripped off the top with the risk of waking up with my topper blown completely off.
