Window Awning BAD DESIGN

I have 3 sets of window awnings. Last year, a side strut broke. $128 and did the repair myself. Last week another broke the same way. I feel I will have to replace all 6 eventually. The product is by Girard. There is a large torsion spring encased in a then vinyl tube. The springs rust and snaps then on retracting the support arm gets in a bind and snaps the aluminum casting pivot point. Has anyone experienced this issue? 2014 model.

I called Girard yesterday to order a replacement part. The tech felt sorry for me and gave me a 15% discount. Frequent flyer I guess.

Window Awning BAD DESIGN

I have the same coach as you....My second arm broke recently, the first was last year. The first broke because I had the bedroom (emergency) window open while closing the awning. Obviously that was a mistake that I won’t repeat. I am glad the arm broke and not the window.. The second broke, apparently because I was at an RV resort in Pacifica, CA with strong 30-40mph winds blowing and I closed the awning so the fabric wouldn’t rip...(I closed the full wall slide too) and the arm snapped while closing. Frustrating. I was trying to find the part number of the arms and the phone number for Girard. Can you help with that.

We should probably share coach issues/stories

If any are vets, ask for a discount for that, lots of places give it for your service.

All the awnings are the same with the only difference being the width. The awning is the G-2085. The part is either #72 or #73. Depending on right or left as you are standing on the outside looking at it. $128. The tech at Girard is very helpful. 949-259-4000. If you need anything else, just ask. Glad to help.

Interesting thread. Apparently the simpler and cheaper A&E/Dometic awnings are much more robust. I've never had anything like this happen with either our 5th Wheel trailer or KSDP. The 5th Wheel was made in 2004 and the KSDP was made in 2007 and has been to Alaska and across the country at least twice. All the window awnings are original and working perfectly.

Simpler is often more robust and trouble-free. But I'm still surprised at Girard. They have such a good reputation.
